Each month, we select students who show all the WARRIOR traits to represent their grade as WARRIOR of the month. The four students pictured above were chosen in March.
In fifth grade, the WARRIOR is Andrew H., who is welcoming, inspiring and respectful. He was nominated by Mrs. Housel, who says, “Andrew is one of the most kind and considerate 5th graders I have ever had. He is always thinking of others, including his teachers. He stands up for his classmates and makes sure everyone has what they need, even if that means giving them all he has. He is a sweet and friendly young man that works hard, even when things don't come easy for him."
Tessa F., the sixth grade warrior, was nominated by Mrs. Schneck for showing all of the Warrior traits consistently throughout the year.Tessa is a good role model for others and WAIS is lucky to have her.
Jason Pena, who was nominated by Mrs. Kirsch, exemplifies the trait of reliability. She says, “Jason was new to WAIS this year, but he didn't hesitate to make himself a part of the school. If anyone needs help with anything, Jason is the guy to ask. In fact, this is true even if you don't ask! What makes Jason exceptional is that he is quick to notice when something needs to be done and he jumps right in to take care of it. He has helped me in more ways than I can count this year including running errands and messages, regularly carting the breakfast tote back and forth, putting things away, and even cleaning up messes he didn't make! His helpfulness and reliability make him a true Warrior leader.”
Finally, the eighth grade winner is Gabe E. Gabe was nominated by Mrs. Silfies and Mrs. Seiple. They say, "Gabe has demonstrated all of the qualities of a true Warrior. He has served on yearbook for four years and has diligently completed all assignments as instructed. He treats all students in all grade levels fairly and kindly. We have never heard him speak negatively about anyone. He is mature beyond his years by offering compassion to help another person. He volunteered his personal time on the weekend to help at the spaghetti dinner for the Wilson Area Partners in Education."
These great students are an example for their classmates. Keep showing the WARRIOR traits!

Are you interested in having fun on a Friday or Saturday night? Well, that’s great! Next week, you should come out to see your friends and family in the spring Drama Club production "Dorothy in Wonderland"! The play will be presented at 7PM on May 3-4 in the WAIS Multi-Purpose Room.
In this play, Dorothy was getting ready to return back to her home in Kansas with her dog, Toto. Then, out of the blue, there was another tornado! Dorothy, Toto, Tin Man, Lion, and Scarecrow are all separated in a new world! That world is… Wonderland! The characters from The Wizard of Oz and Alice in Wonderland are all joined together. Dorothy is trying to be found by her trusty friends, who are all facing their own troubles trying to reunite. The Queen of Hearts isn’t much help. She is threatening to remove people's heads and trying to beat Dorothy, Alice, Tin Man, Lion, and Scarecrow at a game of croquet.
There are wonderful costumes in the play, which are weird, cute, funny, colorful and fun. Some of the best costumes include the Tin Man's silver suit, Alice and Dorothy's classic dresses, and many others. We spoke to Makenna S., who plays the Cheshire Cat, about her costume. She said, “It is very hot inside!”
The crew has been working hard creating scenery and practicing the lighting and sounds for the play. The lighting techs Hayden E., Jared H., and Jeffrey S. have to coordinate with sound tech Alexcea F. while also helping stagehands Keilah F. and Kylie L. Hayden E. says “it feels great to be in the crew because I’m important to the development of the play, and most importantly, it is fun being a lighting tech.”
The cast and crew have worked very, very hard to get this play together! Come out and support everyone that you know! There will be snacks, beverages, and candy grams as well as a lot of laughs and entertainment. Don't miss it!

This year, students at WAIS began nominating Aevidum Heroes to be honored. An Aevidum hero is a person who shows that they appreciate, accept, and care for others.
Aevidum first became an organization in our school five years ago. Mrs. David, the advisor, tells us the purpose of Aevidum is “to communicate that everyone is appreciated, accepted, acknowledged and appreciated.” Students in the organization work to inspire us to support each other. “We Got Your Back“ is the Aevidum motto.
Aevidum was created in 2003 at Cocalico High School after a student committed suicide and the teachers and students formed a small group to support each other. This group, originally called “A Helping Hand” wanted to spread their words of hope across the state and country. Now Aevidum has become a nationwide program with 150 groups in Pennsylvania alone!
So far this year, the students and teachers who have been honored as Aevidum Heroes are Mrs. Kesselring, Mrs. Pickering, Melissa S. and Tara L. Tara L. was honored to be selected as an AEVIDUM hero. She says, "As a new student to the district, it was nice that others noticed" her willingness to support others. She hopes that her nomination helps other students feel comfortable approaching her if they ever need help or support.
If you would like to nominate someone as an Aevidum Hero you can find the nomination box in the Main Office. Remember to appreciate and care for each other, too!

On Wednesday, April 10, WAIS was encouraged to dress up like people did in previous decades. Lots of crazy styles were seen, both from students AND staff. Tutus, fishnet gloves, 60’s hairstyles, and lots of tye-dye appeared on WAIS on Wednesday. Some friends dressed alike and wore tye-dye with scrunchies all around their wrists. One person, Chris G., says, “ I wore a tye-dye shirt, my backpack wore a bandanna.”
Tosin A. "wore an 80’s style sweatshirt with a pink vest, shiny black pants with a yellow design that looked like leg warmers, and long colorful socks.”
“I wore tye-dye and leg warmers,” said Payton H. Aaron M said he wore a Michael Jackson costume with a wig.
Even the staff got into the fun, with some dressing as their favorite decade, and some dressing the way they did in high school. This was one of the most creative theme dress days sponsored by the National Junior Honor Society and Student Council this year.

Every morning in the spring, you can tell who the softball players are at Wilson Area Intermediate School. They are the ones carrying heavy gear bags full of bats, helmets, and cleats. With softball season underway, these dedicated young athletes are giving up time nearly every afternoon for practice and games.
The softball team is coached by Juan Torres and Jay Burwell. They practice Monday-Friday, although they sometime get breaks. While the players agree the coaches can be tough, they realize as Chloe S. states "they are tough because they want us to be successful."
The athletes like to play because it's fun. "I love everything about it," says Emma C. "I have been doing it forever and don't plan to stop."
Chloe S. has also been involved in softball for a long time. She started with tee ball at the age of four and began playing softball at 7 years old. She says, " I joined softball because I thought it would be fun to play and be with my friends. It can be hard, but once you get used to the basics, then it becomes easier, but is always a challenge at the same time!"
They team has faced some challenging competitors, such as their game against Southern Lehigh. Although they were defeated, the team played well. Camryn O. was pitching, Ariana H. had a triple, Madison R. hit a double, Kristal T. hit a single and a home run, Olivia W. had two hits and Chloe S. was a standout defensively and had a good hit. The team has won one game so far, but looks forward to winning more. We wish them a healthy and successful season!

Although the Wilson Intermediate School has no baseball team of its own, the town of Wilson does through the Recreation board. 9 games at 3 different fields will officially start the season at approximately 9:00am on the Opening Day, April 27th. They games will continue all day until the last game at 7:00pm under the lights of Jeffery. Three of the team’s members, Frankie T., Andrew S. and Michael S. have given the Scribbler some information about their team. Let’s have a look:
Brooke- What position do you play?
Andrew- I have played 3rd base and CF (Center Field) for my entire life. I also started pitching when I was just 8 years old.
Michael- I play 3rd base and left field.
Frankie - I am a first baseman and I am left handed.
Brooke- Do you hit left handed or right handed?
Andrew- I am a right-handed batter and I throw right hand as well. When I was 4, I actually threw left handed, but I switched a year later when I knew more than I did and recognized my weaknesses.
Michael- I hit right handed.
Brooke- What is your favorite professional baseball team?
Andrew- My favorite baseball team has always been the Yankees. I liked them because of my brother’s influence on me in 2009, when they won their latest world series.
Michael- My favorite baseball team is the New York Yankees.
Frankie - My all time favorite baseball team is the New York Yankees and always will be.
Brooke- How long have you been on a baseball team?
Michael- I have been playing baseball since t-ball. (T-Ball is the first step into baseball and is usually played by youngsters.)
Andrew- I have been on a team since I was 5. I played T-ball with the Pirates and Mets at Raubsville Park
Frankie - I have been playing baseball since I was 4 and probably will never stop unless I have to.
Brooke- What is your favorite part about baseball?
Michael- My favorite part about baseball is the hitting.
Brooke- What inspired you to start baseball?
Andrew- I was inspired to start baseball when my brother played for the Wilson team in high school and I became interested in playing the sport.
Frankie - What inspired me was my dad, who was a baseball player as a kid and he always told me stories about how fun baseball is which got me going to want to become a baseball player.
Brooke- Who first taught you to play baseball?
Andrew- My dad and brother were always helping me get better at baseball. They still do! They both played as kids and knew a lot about the game.
Frankie - The first person to teach me how to play baseball was my dad as well. He helped me so much throughout my career pushing me to the best I can be.
Brooke- What was the first team you ever played baseball on?
Andrew- My first team I ever played baseball for was the Pirates in T-Ball in 2011.
Michael- The first team I’ve ever played for was Wilson.
We wish these athletes a successful and healthy season.
