Wednesday, February 26 is Pajama Day. Our school is having a pajama day to raise money for the Lehigh Valley Reilly Children's Hospital.
In order to wear pajamas, you must donate at least $1. According to Mrs. Silfies, collections begin on Fri. Feb. 21. There are rules and regulations you must follow to participate. For example, pant length has to below the the knee. You will receive a sticker if you donated you may not take it off. All pajamas must be school appropriate, and you may not wear slippers.
The Reilly Children's Hospital helps children like us who are injured or are battling disease treat their medical problem and give them a safe recovery and by donating just $1 you can support the hospital and help save lives.

The crew of the WAIS fifth and sixth grade drama club meets (almost) every Wednesday after school until 4:30. So far, they have accomplished many tasks to prepare to work backstage during the May play, “North Woods Nonsense.”
In the first week, all members had to audition. Senior helpers assisted with the auditions. If you didn’t want a part in the cast, and you got one, you could just ask to switch to crew. Anyone who didn’t get a part was automatically accepted in the crew.
In the second week the crew all met up at the lunchroom to know how to use the equipment. It was a lot of fun. Crew members learned how to use the lights and where they would shine. They also learned how to use the sound and how NOT to use the sound. There were also some people going deaf because they heard feedback.
In the third week the crew met up in the art room and began painting some of the large accessories in the background including the STAY TUNED sign that you will see on the TV, and the postcard in the background. Also theybegan painting the lodge sign and the advertisement you will most likely see in the cafeteria soon.
In the fourth week they touched up the signs and made them look neater. Then the crew carried them down to the stage. Next, they learned how to set up a second stage and the steps for the office in the play. The crew then put up the flats for the background that still had paintings on them from the years before. They finished by setting up the makeshift TV. The crew had to get this all done because the cast needed something to act on.
Some members of the crew are Brooke H., Heaven, and Jayla. Brooke H. is a senior helper, which means she’s an older student who has been in drama before. We asked her why she became a helper, and she said, “I wanted to help teach the beginners the ropes.”
Jayla, a member of the crew, said she wanted to join drama so that she could learn to use the stage lights. Heaven, another senior helper should be able to help her because she “worked with lights in the last play.”
To see the final product of the crew’s hard work, buy tickets for the show this May!

You may know that February fourteenth is Valentine's day, but did you know that it's SMALENTINE'S day here at WAIS? The Student Council and National Junior Honor Society sold smencils at both entrances to the school for the past week, and today, the lucky recipients had their "smalentines" delivered to their homeroom.
Some students bought smencils for themselves, while others sent them to friends with fun Valentine messages.
The money raised helps support student council events like the Franklin Institute science assembly. This fun and fragrant fundraiser is always a big hit!

The "What's So Cool About Manufacturing" team at WAIS is competing in the annual contest to determine who created the best video about a local manufacturing business. This year, Wilson visited local business Crayola to learn more about how they manufacture art supplies. The video they created is eligible for several awards, including "Viewer's Choice" so go and vote as many times as you can between February 19-21.
Just visit this link starting February 19: https://www.whatssocool.org/contests/lehigh-valley/
Good luck, Manufacturing team!

Our students and staff are always supportive of our community, and we are pleased to announce that we exceeded our fundraising goal to help our classmates who lost their home to a fire. Both students and staff held a collection, and we will be providing the family with gift cards to help replace some of the belongings they lost.
Thank you for your support!

Last week, we asked students and staff at Wilson Area Intermediate School to guess the outcome of the Super Bowl. On Sunday, February 2, after the extraordinary game (Chiefs vs. 49ers), the Chiefs won 31-20.
Our own reporter Brooke H. was the closest guess. She thought the final score would be 34-17 Chiefs. However, since she is on our staff, we chose a second winner - seventh grader Aayush K. His guess of 35-28 Chiefs was the second closest. Congratulations to both winners - please see Mrs. Korin for your prize!
Your guess of which team would win was right! 58.8% of WAIS students chose the Chiefs. The most touchdowns was a tie between Patrick Mahomes and Damien Williams. 18.8% of students chose Mahomes and 28.1% knew it would be a player not listed on our poll. (Williams wasn't listed.)
WAIS students were right about who would have the most passing yards. Mr. Mahomes, the man of magic, had 286 passing yards. 64.7% of students were right about who would score the most touchdowns: the Chiefs. The most penalties went to the 49ers and again 67% of our students were right.
However, everyone was wrong about the most turnovers. 51% chose the Chiefs and 49% chose the 49ers, but it was a tie, with each team having two! Maybe that means everyone was right, too!
Now that Super Bowl 54 is over, the big question is, who will win next year?
