Location Transportation

The WEPO buildings are located in Summertown, a section of Oxford that is 1.4 miles north of the city center (about a 20-30 minute walk). It's a pleasant trip if the weather's nice and you're not in a hurry or loaded down by books, but even if you're an avid walker, there will be times you'll want other options.

Local Buses

Oxford's bus services are quick and convenient. Good services depart from across the road, just outside 145 Banbury Road to the right. Students will be provided with an Oxford 12 MultiTrip SmartZone card that is pre-loaded with 12 one-way trips. You are given an additional £77.50 to spend on bus tickets, which can be in the form of the 12 MultiTrip, or any other ticket type. To reload your card, you can visit the Oxford Bus Company website and register your card number. You can submit the receipt via the subsidy reimbursement form.

Other things to note:

Bus services are reduced on Sundays, Public Holidays, and Bank Holidays. Be sure to check bus times before you travel. We recommend that you download the Oxford Bus Company and Stagecoach apps for easy access to maps and schedules. If you lose/leave something on a local bus, the Stagecoach and Oxford Bus Company offices are based on Cowley, at which you can retrieve your property for a small fee.

Taxis

Taxis in the City Centre can be found on St. Giles, in Gloucester Green, or at Carfax Tower. If you want to get one from EWH, call ahead or book through the app. It costs around £5-6 to go from the city centre to 145 Banbury Road, depending on the time of day and the number of people/luggage.

001 Taxis will generally cost less, with a £4 minimum instead of £5 from 5am to 10pm. Most taxis will be fairly strict about not carrying more than 5 people. The Uber app operates in Oxford, although it calls regular taxis rather than Uber drivers. You can also use the Royal Cars app to order a taxi.

Note: the taxi companies require at least 20-30 minutes to reserve a taxi. Expect a 15 minute minimum wait.
