The Fun Com is elected by EWH residents at the beginning of each of the three terms. Fun Com plans social functions and manages the social budget. The committee consists of five members: three are representatives of the three houses (one each for 2 Lathbury Road, 4 Lathbury Road, and 145 Banbury Road), one of the Exeter EWH residents, and one ‘at large’ student representative. Once elected, Fun Com chooses a Chair and a Treasurer. The Chair will preside at the meetings of the Committee and will represent it in dealings with administration. The Treasurer will work with the administration in arranging disbursement of funds.
Fun Com is provided with £600 annually for the funding of social and cultural activities for the house. Although these funds may be spent as the Committee sees fit, WEPO staff may veto any expense they deem inappropriate, and no funds may be used for the purchase of alcohol. £200 will be made available at the start of each term. Any unused funds at the end of each term will be carried over to the next. The Fund may cover expenses such as purchase of food for summer BBQ’s, weekly snack nights, birthday treats, purchase of shared condiments for student kitchens, friend dates, etc. All expenses must be pre-approved by the Director of Administration before anything is purchased. Purchases that have not been pre-approved will not be reimbursed. All receipts submitted must be itemized, and must be submitted by the Treasurer.
Past events have included afternoon teas, punting parties on the river, BBQs at EWH, a murder mystery Halloween party, friend dates, or special group dinners at Exeter.
The Treasurer of the Fun Com should work with the Director of Administration to settle all accounts. All large social gatherings and outings funded by the Programme must be discussed with, and approved by, the Director of Administration at least 1-2 weeks in advance of the proposed event. Really think about how you want to spend Fun Com funds. Parties are okay, but in terms of making the most of your time here, think creatively about group activities and outings that bring the entire group together. You're welcome and encouraged to invite other Oxford students to your events if you wish to use your funds in that way.
