All room doors in EWH are fire doors. They can only be propped open using the fire door prop installed at the bottom of the door. You must not prop the doors with any other object. If your door prop isn't working properly, please report this on Joblogic, and we will fix it for you. Anyone caught propping the doors illegally will automatically be fined £20.
No electrical appliances using heating elements (eg. kettles, coffee makers, heaters, fairy lights, hot plates, etc.) are to be used in your rooms. No naked flames or consequent apparatus (glass), such as candles, incense burners, Shisha pipes/bongs, may be used. There is a £50 fine for use of these prohibited items.
Landings, stairs, and doors must be clear of obstructions at all times. Do not leave any bikes, tables, chairs, ironing boards, irons, clothes, or any personal items on landings, in hallways, or on stairs. There is no smoking, including e-cigarettes and vaping, in any part of any building, or within 25 feet of College buildings. The no-smoking policy must be strictly adhered to by students, staff, and guests at all times. There is a £50 fine for students who fail to adhere to these policies.
In the event of any fire emergency, leave the room, close the door, raise the alarm, exit the building following the Exit signs, and call the fire service dialling 999 on your mobile phone. The Emergency Assembly Point is outside the green garden shed behind 1 Moreton Road.
Parapets, Roofs, and Attics: The parapets on the front of 2 & 4 Lathbury Road and the roofs and attics of all houses will not support your weight. Please do not climb on them.
As at Williams College, students who ignore a fire alarm will be subject to disciplinary action. Students who misuse, tamper with, or otherwise disturb fire safety equipment, including smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, fire extinguishers, fire doors, or activate fire alarms due to smoking are subject to a £250 fine as well as the cost of restoring the equipment. These students will be referred to the Dean’s Office and may be dismissed or suspended from the Programme and the College.
