With the change in season, the winter uniform structure is now in effect as of November 2, 2025. Ensure your uniform complies with current standards for appearance during colder weather operations. All details can be found within our Uniform Structures; however, Class C usage is prohibited.
Officer Progression Chart Changes
We recently announced the release of the updated Officer Progression Chart based on updated training procedures within the department. This revised structure outlines the path for advancement and highlights opportunities for professional growth within the department.
Be sure to review it to understand your next steps within the department and career development goals.
Bureau of Professional Development as Staff Requirements
With the Bureau of Professional Development (BPD) taking on the training procedures of the LEAB and Basic Law Enforcement Course & Examination, the Bureau is now recognized as a division that counts as a requirement for holding a rank in community staff.
Members can opt to remain in the Recruitment and Training Division, Civilian Training Program, or Beta Testing Level 2 to hold this requirement; however, it is important to remember that any member who wishes to hold the Senior Patrol Officer rank or a staff position within Municipal Police must be in the Bureau of Professional Development.
Pursuit Policy Changes
Please take time to familiarize yourself with our updated Pursuit Policy. The updated guidelines emphasize safety, communication, and sound decision-making during active pursuits. Municipal Police Administration continues to be committed to fostering a pursuit policy that prioritizes safety, clarity, and accountability in coordination with State Police Administration. The department will continually review pursuit data to identify training needs, trends, and whether revisions to this policy are warranted.
Crossfire & Firearm Safety
Remember — every round fired carries your name. Always identify your target and what lies beyond before engaging.
Scene Approach
Officers are reminded to be aware of their approach based on the type of call — burglaries, disturbances, and high-risk incidents each require different tactics.
Emergency Responses & Driving
Reserve emergency responses for situations that truly require them. When possible, respond under normal driving conditions for safety and realism.
Department Feedback
All community members and department members are reminded that we value constructive feedback, and it is highly encouraged. We look forward to hearing and reading your feedback on us so we can make appropriate changes.
District Assignments
Officers are required to follow supervisor assignments promptly when distributed. If directed to patrol a certain district, officers must comply. Supervisors will make efforts to rotate officers to each municipality during patrols.
Officers should check in with a supervisor at the start of their patrol to confirm where they’re needed. If a supervisor is unable to reply to your message, just ensure that the municipality with the lowest coverage is covered.
Radio & Dispatch Awareness
Please ensure you respond to dispatched calls and monitor your radio at all times. Allow dispatch to assign units to calls as appropriate. Officers must ensure that they identify themselves when responding to calls that come out.
