Patrol Responsibilities on Tactical Scenes:
As a patrol officer, there are various responsibilities that play crucial roles in supporting all aspects of tactical scenes, such as hostage situations, barricaded subjects, bank robberies, etc. Patrol units provide essential support and assistance to the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team while they handle these high-risk and tactical operations.
Patrol units are responsible for listening to the Scene Command/Supervisor instructions and assisting where necessary, including, but not limited to:
Perimeter Security:
Patrol units may be responsible for establishing and maintaining a secure perimeter around the incident area; this allows for controlled access to the scene and prevents unauthorized individuals from entering the incident area.
Traffic Control:
Patrol units may be responsible for managing traffic in and around the incident area, allowing for clear and safe traffic movement in the area, and allowing for emergency vehicles and personnel to move around the area to prevent major traffic congestion and prevent accidents.
Medical Support:
Patrol units also may be responsible for providing initial medical assistance before MFE arrives on the scene, or assisting with medical aid on wounded officers/SWAT operatives while a scene is still unsafe for MFE personnel to move in. It is crucial to be able to work together and coordinate with other officers and SWAT to ensure appropriate medical support.
If you have any questions or inquiries, please feel free to reach out to a Municipal Police Staff Member, or SALEC SWAT Supervisors who will be willing to provide more details in regards to these scenes.
