Officer Professionalism & Conduct:
As we continue striving for professionalism and enhancing our department’s standing this year, officers are reminded to remain in full compliance with all Uniform Structures, Vehicle Structures, Jurisdiction Policies, and other applicable Regulations & Policies while on patrol.
Additionally, please ensure that you are conducting yourself professionally at all times. We have seen an increase in complaints regarding unprofessional behavior, and it is imperative that we uphold the standards that the community expects from law enforcement departments.
Officers are encouraged to review our Code of Ethics, Expectations, and Mission Statement of the department and to always ensure our goals as a department are met.
Driving Performance & Pursuits:
All officers are reminded to exercise due regard and carefully consider the safety of others when making decisions while responding to calls or engaging in pursuits. It is essential to remain vigilant and adhere to all operational guidelines to ensure the safety of both officers and the public.
Additionally, officers are required to review and maintain familiarity with the Pursuit Policy. It is a responsibility of each officer to determine whether a pursuit is permitted under department regulations. As a department, the enforcement of the pursuit policy will be strictly upheld, with increased oversight on compliance. Violations will be subject to appropriate action.
Officers are encouraged to open a staff ticket for any questions or clarifications regarding pursuit regulations.
Officer Safety:
All officers are reminded to lock their patrol vehicles when exiting. There has been a recent increase in incidents involving stolen patrol cars while on duty. Ensuring that vehicles are secured at all times helps prevent unauthorized access to cruisers.
Recommended Training — Personal Interactions OSP:
Officers who have not yet attended the Personnel Interactions OSP training are highly encouraged to do so, as it provides valuable guidance on effective communication and professionalism. Key takeaways include:
Outward Behavior – Your demeanor directly impacts interactions. Avoid passive-aggressive behavior, as it often leads to negative outcomes. Remember, silence can be more effective than insisting on having the last word.
Self-Control – Always remain calm and composed in every situation. A professional officer looks for ways to connect and communicate effectively, rather than belittling others or making dismissive remarks.
