This week, like last week, I I looked into what kind of artwork the public criticizes.
This is LEE Woo Hwan's work which is called 'Quiet'.
He is a modern artist born in Korea. He is leading the theory and practice of Monopoly, an innovative art movement in Japan. He participated
in the prestigious international matches such as Paris Biennale, Sao Paulo Biennale, and Casel Documenta.
When he made this work, He said "I endured a great deal of patience and anguish to mark a point."
This work was auctioned off at about 1.7 billion won.
When the news spread, the public began to attack his work.
The reason is that the public didn't understand whether it took so long to mark the dot and why the mark was worth 1.7 billion won.
There is another artist who is being attacked by the public like LEE Woo Hwan.
He is KIM Hwan Ki who was a western painter of Korea He is said to have made Western modernism into Korea as a master of modern and
contemporary art in Korea. He was a pioneer of early abstract art and led the internationalization of Korean art while working in France and
the United States. Based on the restrained formulation and the Korean poetic spirit, Korea has realized the identity of Korean painting.
As was the case before, the public began to criticize this painting after news spread that it had been sold for 8.5 billion won.
The reasons for criticizing were similar to those before.
The public thought 'There are no concrete figures on the painting, so it cannot be seen as a painting worth 8.5 billion.'
And to conclude, I think that the public blames artists for their time and effort.
I think the biggest challenge is to show that an artist takes a lot of time and effort to complete a task.
