I tried to choose from works that were installed in the exhibition.
Robert Whitman’s works where a line of red light travel in a open cube space, was installed above the ceiling. A red dot becoming a line, then becoming a dot again after it traveled through the four walls in the ceiling. The work was very simple, and it was the simplicity that made it fascinating to see. I think I liked the work because of what Robert Whitman said in his interview. He described EAT as having a energy that was unique until this day. He talked about how the artists were very welcoming even though he wasn’t a known artist at the time. At any given moment, they would share what they were doing and everyone was working with a hands-on attitude, encouraging to do more.
I think the interviews were very interesting to watch. Hearing from artists and collaborators, you can really sense what was going on at the time. The energy and the motivation to experiment and challenge the conventional art was very inspiring.
Even though the the work itself isn't something that is super interesting, I feel like it fits into what EAT was trying to achieve.
