Debriefing about the trip to the Gwangju Biennale The students discussed the problem with too much artworks in large exhibitions. They found it difficult to get an overview. Some students had opinions about some themes, they found "incomprehensible". We also talked about different curator strategies and setled that this biennale was curated in a heavily thematic manner. We also touched the results of the assignment. As all students hadn't delivered their assignments we glanced at those who had produced numbers and opinions. It seems like female students had gathered statistical information. Male students found the topic uninteresting and not relevant. "The artists where chosen by their quality" and "In my life I have never thought about gender balance, it is not relevant."
Workshop, digital exhibition The groups that where formed two weeks ago had not prepared proposals for their respective digital exhibition ideas. So we are now one week behind schedule. It was also very difficult to get a discussion going on how to get started.
Assignment 1. The Gwangju Biennale has to be delivered printed. If you have difficulties in English you will write in your mother tongue and add a simple google translation in English. One printed A4 for each language. 2. Bring 3 or more photos of the project you want to show. The photos should be A3 or larger. Videos are accepted to be shown with the projector. These images are going to be the base for planning the project. Work in progress is OK. Also bring a laptop. Next week we are going to work on the actual web site.
