55th Anniversary of College Closure
Held 4 February 2023
Held 4 February 2023
The College closed at the end of 1968. Accordingly, given the time passed since then and the ages of the many Old Patricians still on our Contact List, it was decided that the 55th year after closure would be a good time to recall as many OPs as possible to an event marking that anniversary occasion. Although a 55th anniversary is not often celebrated, it is nevertheless a fitting one for Patricians. Given that St Patrick's origins and those of the first teachers at the College are in the 'Emerald Isle' and the anniversary stone for 55 is the Emerald, then 2023 couldn't be allowed to pass without some recognition.
The event was arranged for Saturday 4 February and was held at the Glenferrie Hotel in Burwood Rd Hawthorn. A very pleasing number (104) of Old Patricians were able to make it to the function. The list of attendees and apologies can be found by clicking this link. [Note: the list may be inaccurate by one or two names until organizers get a chance to double-check!].
A report on the day was written by the Chief Organizer, Bill Dowling, and can be viewed here. Numerous photos taken during the afternoon can be viewed below and will give some idea of who was there and what the event looked like.
Because of the large number of photos, there are just a few which are shown here at the beginning (mainly group photos, e.g. Patricians FC, Clergy, OPs who were members of the Australian Defence Force after leaving school), the OHS club ('Open Heart Surgery' and still going strong!). These and many additional ones are shown in a list below the 'group' ones, but in 'thumbnail' form. For a larger view of any photo, click on the photo and it will appear in a new 'Tab' in your browser. When a photo is opened in the new tab, then there will be an option for you to download the photo onto you own device to provide you with your own copy.
To go back to others in the thumbnail list, either close the tab that was just opened, or click near the top of the window on the Tab named '2023 55th Anniversary'.
