Recent Updates of Tanzanian Activities [see introduction and background to this story here]
October 2025 ...
This past week we performed the weight check on our malnourished children - 156 in all with 22 under 12 months of age receiving baby formula. Two newborn twins weighing just 2.2Kg and 2.9Kg were welcomed this month. Their mother Is unable to breast feed them. The remaining 134 child carers received nutrient enriched flour and peanut butter, along with a supply of cooking oil, and soap.
We have embarked on a new strategy in an attempt to increase weight more rapidly. In our estimation protein is lacking in the diet of many children. To change this, we will give their carers Tsh 10,000 (Tanzanian shillings) each month to be used to access local protein rich foods - eggs, beans and fish.
But the payment will not be unconditional. The child will need to put on 0.3Kg during each month in order to qualify for the payment. We hope this will ensure that the money is fully allocated to the purchase of said protein foods.
This is a journey into the unknown and only time will tell where we are headed. We announced the new strategy this month and will instigate it from next month.
I am quietly confident that we can make an impact. But, of course, as always, complications are sure to arise. We will remain flexible.
We are currently designing a brochure to help with donations. Our project expenditure continues to grow with no shortage of new projects in sight. Should you wish to distribute said brochure, please let me know and we can then post any number to you. I will send a proof of the brochure separately via Mail Drop.
I wish you all mellow times as we all traverse our various life journeys, hopefully in good health.
In gratitude, Julian/Jules
