2025 Award
The 2025 recipient of the SPOCA scholarship is Yasmin Pitisano. When Yasmin completes her teaching degree, she is hoping to work in disadvantaged and rural schools in the Northern Territory. She has already had some experience in teaching to such communities through the volunteer work she has been involved in. The scholarship will enable her to continue with her volunteering work without having the extra strain of doing so much part-time work to make ends meet.
Yasmin's family situation has meant that she has experienced additional financial hardship while attempting to assist at home as well as attending to her other academic and community work. Part of our SPOCA scholarship involves us offering mentor assistance to students during their studies, and Yasmin plans to make use of that through the NT teaching experience of the daughter of one of our SPOCA committee members.
Yasmin will be a very worthy recipient of our scholarship and SPOCA wishes her every success in her studies and later career.
Towards the end of the third year of her studies and during which she had the benefit of the Scholarship, Yasmin has written a letter of appreciation explaining how the award has helped her during the year. Her letter can be read by clicking here.
She is a most worthy recipient and we have sent her our best wishes for a successful conclusion to her studies and a productive teaching career.
