Copies of the book, More Than A School written by Michael Head and Gerry Healy, are in short supply ... and the original publishers no longer have the documents required to do a re-print, and it would be too expensive in any  case. The committee considered how this situation might be addressed. Gavin Wayland did some research and, among other avenues, approached Ivanhoe Copy Centre (ICC), to determine their interest and ability to undertake a digital scan of the book. The result is that we now have a digital copy of the book with much interesting history about the school and the students who attended it. A longer description of the process involved in producing the digital file is outlined below, after the blue link to the book (click the 'blue stripe' ... it may be necessary to wait for 10 seconds or so for the large file to load onto your screen). The agreement, which allows us to make the scanned copy of the book available to readers, requires us to include the following details about Rights:

Background to Production of MTAS

As part of this process, we were also in contact with the groups who were associated with the production of the original book. Naturally, the authors have a primary interest, formally arising from their Moral Rights (the legal term which recognizes the ownership rights of those who created the work). In addition, we needed to work with the publishers regarding our plan. The book was originally published with financial and printing assistance from the Eldon Hogan Trust and the Jesuit Province in Australia (formally, the Australian Province of the Society of Jesus, APSJ). The original publisher was 'Jesuit Publications', an entity which now no longer exists but its role falls under the authority of APSJ. Consequently, both of those groups (EHT and APSJ) were included in our discussions because of their publishing rights. The end result of those discussions was that the licence agreement was signed by APSJ, EHT, ICC and SPOCA.

As a result of all that, SPOCA received the necessary permissions for the contents of the book, More Than A School, to be scanned and displayed for reading our website. Arising from our signing of the necessary licence agreement, the APSJ suggested that we include the following form of words as an indication of their granting of permission for the book to be made available here:

The Provincial of the Australian Province of the Society of Jesus and The Trustee of the Eldon Hogan Trust hereby grant Ivanhoe Copy Centre and St Patrick’s Old Collegians’ Association a non-exclusive licence to scan and display the book More than a School by Michael Head SJ and Gerard Healy SJ on the following conditions:

1. That the licence is granted for the display of the work on the website http://sites.google.com/view/stpatsoca and for no other purpose.

2. That the moral rights of the authors and the words “© Provincial of the Australian Province of the Society of Jesus and Trustee of the Elton Hogan Trust, 2023, All rights reserved” are displayed prominently on the page.

3. That there is no charge to access the work.
