Longer Stories

A number of 'Notable' Patricians have been mentioned on the 'Notables' page, along with a brief outline of their more well-known achievements and careers. The committee has undertaken some further research on many of these Old Collegians and produced a set of longer pieces describing their backgrounds and life stories in greater detail, including some lesser-known anecdotes, where possible, which add further colour to the characters.

The number of these short biographies is gradually increasing and so, rather than having them available in full directly on the website, they can be easily accessed by clicking on the relevant thumbnail icon from list below. (When a story is displayed on-screen, it can also be downloaded for off-line viewing by selecting the 'download' option on your device).

There are currently nine on the list: Vincent Buckley, John Drury, John Galbally, John Hennessy, John Madden, Percy McDonnell, Timothy McInerney, Patrick Moloney and Jack O'Hagan. (If all names are not visible, scroll down the thumbnail list).

Some recent O'Hagan news in March 2024: Jack O'Hagan's grand-daughter (Jo Gilbert) has eventually been able to publish her significant history book describing in detail the life and times of a well-known Patrician and a significant Australian (Along the Road to Gundagai, Biography of Jack O'Hagan and Birth of Australian Pop Culture). It is a long-overdue record of Jack's place in the development of the music and entertainment industry in its early days. As an Old Patrician, Jack is mentioned quite a few times in the Patrician yearbooks during the 1920s, 1930s and later, in the 'Old Collegians' section. All of those editions of the yearbook can be found on this website in the College History/Yearbooks section. The book was launched at three separate functions during the weeks after Easter 2024: one in St Kilda, another in Gundagai, and the last in the National Film and sound Archive in Canberra. The details about the book are described on the official Jack O'Hagan website. Purchase arrangements for a very readable biography can be found on this page of the O'Hagan website (click the underlined link).
