In my art I like to apply subjects, landmarks, and scenery from my day-to-day life to my paintings, portrayed in Madhubani style. Whether its drawing Madhubani cats or famous Indian landmarks within traditional Madhubani themes, this art form has helped connect things, big and small, that I appreciate in life to my culture.
The whole idea for this painting started when I visited Kapaleeshwar Temple in Chennai, India a few years ago. Inside this temple, I learnt a story about a carving, where Ganesha outwits his brother, Murugan, with the mere play of a word ("world"), to win the favor of his parents Shiva and Parvathi. My favorite part of Kapaleeshwar temple was the temple tank. I remember my 10-year-old self, imagining the gentle and wise Pillayar (as Ganesha is fondly referred to in Tamil Nadu) sitting there. Now this idea has come to life, a flurry of colors and designs.
