Grade 11
My name is Hasini Gopal and I've been practicing Madhubani art for around 3 years now. When I first started Madhubani art, I really didn't see the appeal of it. But now as I've been doing it for longer, I've truly fallen in love with it. It brought me closer to my culture and taught me about patience and confidence. Now I've learned things about my culture that I had never known before, or was even interested in. I'm now glad that I know so much, and will continue to learn more.
This painting portrays a mommy elephant with her baby walking through a desert at night. In Hindiusm, elephants symbolize strength, wisdom, and prosperity, as this family is making a great journey across the desert. This painting also symbolizes new beginnings and fresh starts, as it looks like they are walking towards the light while also traveling to a new place.
