Grade 9
My name is Anvika Bheemarasetty, and I am a professional Madhubani artist. Nearly four years ago, I earned my certification as a Madhubani teaching artist from the Government of Bihar, and I now teach my own students and even gifted a painting to the Mayor of Seattle. I fell in love with art at three and began learning Madhubani under Ms. Deepti Agrawal at six. This art form has become integral to my identity, deepening my connection to my culture and heritage. Madhubani Art has taught me the stories and scriptures of Hindu mythology, fostering my creativity and patience through its intricate details. Each painting I create is a journey; immersed in stories, deities, and symbols that bring my artwork to life, embodying the essence of the past, present, and future.
This painting beautifully depicts the Godesss Durga, revered as the goddess of power, strength, and protection. She is accompanied by her vahana, the lion, a symbol of divine strength in Hindu mythology. The raging fire and calm flowers in the background together represent the anger, and tranquility of the Goddess merging. Throughout the painting, there is hidden symbolism to Durga's creation story, as well as a traditional Hindu prayer etched in her hair. Together, these elements create a vivid tribute to the transformative power of emotion and courage.
