Grade 1
I grew up watching my grandmother and my sister wield their paint brushes and create magic on canvas. As a child I would constantly create art with my sister and that made me the happiest. I started off with making magical unicorns and colorful rainbows until I saw my older sister's paintings. There was something about the intricate designs and the mythological stories she would tell me that made me want to try this art from, that I later learnt was called Madhubani or Mithila art. I hope to create beautiful Madhubani art in the future and learn more about my culture and tradition.
In Indian mythology, the peacock is more than a bird. It is the vehicle of Kartikeya, the god of courage, and a symbol of beauty, protection, and renewal. Legends say that when Lord Indra’s thunderous clouds filled the sky, the peacock danced in joy, spreading its feathers wide to celebrate the rain that nourishes the earth. Each feather carries an “eye,” reminding us of watchfulness and wisdom.
Through this artwork, I found not only the joy of learning a new art form but also a connection to the timeless story of the peacock, a creature that embodies grace, strength, and divine blessing.
