Another small but important word is “sino.” Sino is used to correct a previous statement. Unfortunately, there is no direct translation for this one.
Now, let’s imagine you said you like coffee but it is not true and you want to correct yourself. Then you can say something like, perdón no me gusta el café SINO el té. Sorry, I don’t like coffee but I like tea.
Sino can be used with other verbs. If someone ask you something like, you don’t' want to go? But you do want to go but you can’t. We can use sino.
No es que no quiero ir sino que no puedo ir – It is not that I don’t want to go but that I can’t go.
It takes time to get adjusted to concepts that don’t exist in our language but you’ll get used to sino.
