Probation periods give us a chance to assess your suitability, and for you to assess if you like working with us. Your contract of employment will tell you how long your probation period is for.Â
When you start with us, you'll be given an Employee Progression Checklist to work through during your probation period. you'll have regular 1-2-1s with your manager at the end of weeks 1, 2 & 3, and probation review meetings at weeks 4, 8 and 12, during which you'll go through the Employee Progression Checklist to see how you are progressing and set any further learning targets.
At the week 12 probation review meeting, your manager will discuss your overall progress and the status of your probation period. Presuming your performance and conduct are satisfactory (or even better!), you'll then get confirmation that you've passed your probation period and are now a fully-fledged member of the team, we might even put your name in our newsletter!
Unfortunately there are times when someone simply isn't suitable. We'll always talk to you about our concerns and give you a chance to put things right and we might decide to extend your probation period. However, if improvements aren't made, or if we feel there's no possibility you'll reach the required standards even with extra time and support, we may decide to end your employment - we'll always confirm this in writing and give you the relevant notice laid out in your contract.
