When people work together, they form close personal friendships and, in some cases, personal relationships. We don't want to interfere with your personal life, but we have to ensure any personal relationships that are formed don't interfere with your work.
Regardless of whether you start a personal relationship with a team member, client, supplier or contractor (and regardless of gender), you mustn't allow this to influence your conduct at work. Please avoid intimate behaviour such as holding hands or kissing.
Where your relationship (or intended relationship) is with a colleague, please let your manager know, in confidence, as soon as possible.
Where your relationship (or intended relationship) is with a customer, supplier or contractor there's a risk that either of you may use influence over the other and create a conflict of interest. Please tell your manager about your relationship as soon as possible. We may transfer you to another department or salon, or change our arrangements with the customer, supplier or contractor, but we'll talk to you about this first.
If you start a relationship with a more junior member of the team, you need to tell your manager or area manager, in confidence, as soon as possible. It's important to make sure the junior team member doesn't receive different treatment. We may decide to alter the chain of command or move one of you to another department or salon. We'll talk to you before we do this, but please be aware we may need to disclose your relationship on a need-to-know basis.
If your personal relationship, or the breakdown of that relationship starts to affect your performance or conduct, we'll discuss this with you to try to resolve the problem (we may need to use our disciplinary process).
Use of any undue influence over a colleague, customer, supplier or contractor is very serious and may be considered gross misconduct.
We won't refuse employment to someone who's in a relationship with an existing team member and we won't stop team members working in the same place, provided the rules are followed.
