THE SOLEMNITY OF THE MOST HOLY TRINITY

(TRINITY SUNDAY)

7 June 2020

[John 3: 16-18]

God has many attributes. He is omnipotent (all powerful), omniscience (all knowing), omnipresent (all present), omnibenevolent (all good), wonderful, majestic, kind, compassionate, tender, merciful… and the list goes on.

Above all these attributes of God, St John, without any doubt or hesitation, professed that “GOD IS LOVE [1 Jn 4: 8]”. Notice that he did not say “God is loving”, but rather he said “GOD IS LOVE” because God Himself is love.

And that is the theme for the Scripture passages this Sunday. Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI shared that, “On this Solemnity, we are invited to contemplate the Heart of God, his deepest reality which is His being One in the Trinity, a supreme communion of love and life”.

St Augustine has this to say,

"Wherever there is love (God),

there is TRINITY:

a lover (the Father),

a beloved (the Son),

and a fountain of love (the Holy Spirit)."

GOD IS LOVE. God is a loving communion of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.

We are created in God’s image and likeness:

(1) We are created out of love.

(2) We are created for love.

(3) And we are created to love.

Let our fervent prayer be,

“Lord God, teach us to love one another

as You have loved us.
