Water Heater

What to Do When the Water from Water Heater is Too Hot?

Who doesn't love a warm bath? Everybody enjoys bathing in a nice hot bath, but definitely not in too hot water. If your water heater produces too hot water, it is time to check the thermostat. The settings of the water heater's thermostat might be set too high.

Steps in Checking the Thermostat Settings

In the service panel, turn off the power of your water heater. It is to make sure that checking is done safely.

Next, remove the access panel on the water heater. Also, remove the insulation and plastic safety guard from all the heating elements of the heater. Remember not to touch the wiring and electrical terminals of your water heater. Using a voltage tester that is non-contact, you can test the wires to confirm that the power of your water heater is off.

On the thermostats, check the settings of the heat. Both thermostats must have the same temperature. Plumber in Greenwich, CT recommends the settings to be between 115 and 125 F.

If the temperature is too high, change the settings. With the use of a flat-head screwdriver, you can adjust the temperature to the desired settings. Once the first thermostat is set, adjust the other thermostat with the same settings as the first one.

To make sure it works, you can replace the safety guard of your water heater. You may also replace the insulation and the access panel for each element of your water heater.

Once all is done, you can turn on the circuit breaker of your water heater.

Things to Remember:

Although you can work on the things mentioned above, you must be cautious too. Pay attention to every detail, especially the wiring. Make sure you do not touch or harm any of the wires in your water heater.

With this, it is important to consult a professional plumber. Professional plumbers can do the work with ease, without harming any of your electrical components.

DIY does not work all the time. Remember, there are jobs better left to be worked by professionals to avoid bigger problems. In terms of plumbing, there are things you can do at home on your own. However, there are also things like the safety that you must consider.

Searching the internet for DIY solutions can work too, but not all the time. In short, there are jobs for DIY and there are jobs for professionals. Make sure not to mix both
