Showerhead Washer Leak

How to Fix Worn Rubber/ Washer in Showerheads?

In my other blog post, I have talked about the showerhead leak due to clogged holes. I have also shared the simple ways to fix it. In this post, I am going to talk about how to fix leaking showerheads due to worn rubber or washer.

Worn rubber or washer is another reason that a showerhead leaks. If your showerhead drips even though the holes are not clogged, chances are the washer is worn out.

Below is a simple guide to help you fix a worn-out showerhead washer:

Like many other plumbing fixture issues, before repairing or fixing it is important to turn off the power supply.

Check if the washer in the showerhead or the washer in the faucet needs repair or replacement. As a rule, a single handle faucet shower has the washer placed in the showerhead. So, check the washer in that part. For two handles faucet, check the washer in the faucet first.

Take out the washer in the showerhead. With a wrench, extract the collar nut in the arm of the shower. There is a swivel ball below that sits on the washer.

Once you have removed the washer, replace it with a new one. If you are going to buy a new washer, bring the old one. Purchase the same washer, when it comes to size, shape, and thickness to avoid problems upon installation.

To prevent problems and damages, a plumber in Denver, CO advises everyone to do not work on a DIY project without the right knowledge and tools. Chances are, your fixtures might be ruined instead of getting repaired. However, if you are confident then you can try it. If the problem continues, call a professional plumber right away and let them do their job.

Note: If the thickness or shape or size is different from the old one, your showerhead will still leak.

For those who need to replace a shower in the faucet, you can unscrew the faucet and take out the washer.

Once the showerhead is replaced, put back all the parts. Remember how you separated and disconnected them and work your way back in place. Then, turn on the water system.

Check if your showerhead still leaks. If not, then you have done it well. If it still leaks, it is either there must be something wrong with the installation or there is another problem with your shower. Call an expert to fix the problem.
