Requires: Botanist's Tools Proficiency
Exploring the world means discovering new things, as every adventurer knows. One such boon of adventure is, believe it or not, discovering new plant-life. Plants come in all sorts, and contain various properties that one can use for any number of things, such as making medicine, cooking food, and even for use in battle. You can spend downtime to start building up your garden. On your person, you can hold Small Planters. If you own a ship or headquarters, you can purchase Medium or larger Planters. These planter pots allow you to grow different plants and seeds that can later be harvested for ammunition, alchemy or medicine. To plant something, you must spend 2 Downtime Points and pass the Herbalist Tools DC threshold. Below is a list of all seeds and their crafting goal depending on the size of your planter, as well as their cost.
Planters Price Holds Harvest
Small Planter: 10,000 Berri Holds 1 Seed 1d4 Plants
Medium Planter: 20,000 Berri Holds 2 Seeds 2d4 Plants
Large Planter: 30,000 Berri Holds 3 Seeds 3d4 Plants
Extra Large Planter: 60,000 Berri Holds 4 Seeds 4d4 Plants
Pop Green Seeds - Used as ammunition, the best thing about Pop Greens is that you can grow more, rather than purchasing it. Growing Pop Green seeds, however, is a lengthy process, more so than other seeds you can grow through botany. The threshold of botany checks you must reach to fully mature a Pop Green plant can be found below, depending on the size of the planter you use.
Pop Green Seeds - DC Threshold
Small Planter - 50 + (10 x Tier)
Medium Planter - 70 + (10 x Tier)
Large Planter - 90 + (10 x Tier)
Extra Large Planter - 110 + (10 x Tier)
Plants, Herbs, and Fungi - Used in brewing, plants, herbs and fungi can be harvested for the use in creating medicine, potions, and poisons that might assist you and your allies in the midst of battle. Plants, Herbs, and Fungi come in different rarities (Common/ 1 | Uncommon/ 2 | Rare/ 3 | Very Rare/ 4). The most common types of plants and herbs can be used to make Health or Energy potions, and some can even be made into liquid bombs, known as Alchemical Fire. Plants and herbs grow at about the same rate across the board, and the yield of fungi is greater than normal planters. The threshold of botany checks to mature them is listed below, depending on the size of planter you use.
Plant Seeds - DC Threshold
Small Planter - 30 + (5 x Rarity)
Medium Planter - 50 + (5 x Rarity)
Large Planter - 70 + (5 x Rarity)
Extra Large Planter - 90 + (5 x Rarity)
Herb Seeds - DC Threshold
Small Planter - 45 + (5 x Rarity)
Medium Planter - 65 + (5 x Rarity)
Large Planter - 85 + (5 x Rarity)
Extra Large Planter - 105 + (5 x Rarity)
Fungi - DC Threshold
Small Planter - 35 + (5 x Rarity) | Yield = 1d8
Medium Planter - 40 + (5 x Rarity) | Yield = 2d8
Large Planter - 45 + (5 x Rarity) | Yield = 3d8
Extra Large Planter - 50 + (5 x Rarity) | Yield = 4d8
Produce - Many ingredients used in cooking can be grown through botany, such as fruits and vegetables. Each has their own specific growing threshold, alongside another restriction. For instance, a fruit sapling can only be grown in a large or extra large planter, vegetables remain the same, however.
After a fruit tree has fully matured, you can harvest it for free at the start of every in-game week, without any need to regrow it.
Fruits - DC Threshold
Large Planter - 80 + (10 x Tier) - Produces 2d4 Fruits
Extra Large Planter - 100 + (10 x Tier) - Produces 4d4 Fruits.
Vegetables - DC Threshold
Small Planter - 45 + (5 x Tier)
Medium Planter - 50 + (5 x Tier)
Large Planter - 65 + (5 x Tier)
Extra Large Planter - 70 + (5 x Tier)
Extracting Seeds
In order to perform Botany, you'll need seeds to grow. Seeds are attainable through foraging on missions, shops, but also you can extract them from plants you have already attained. This process is fairly simple, by spending 2DT you can expend 5*Tier/Rarity of the same plant in order to extract 1d4 seeds from it. You add an additional 1d4 per tier or rarity of the seed (Common = 1 / Uncommon = 2 / Rare = 3 / Very Rare = 4). The higher tier a plant is, the seeds are harder to extract, so you'll need to go through more plants in order to get viable seeds for Botany.
