NLTP NewsRoom Hub - BCC vs. CYC (B)

I was really hyped up for this matchup, because for me this was my #1 team in BCC going up against my #4 team in CYC. I really loved the defense for BCC and I felt like that was the best defense in the league. Meanwhile, CYC's offense was stacked with great players, some new and some old.

The community didn't like CYC as much as I did, ranking them #11. In fact, the aggregate rankings for CYC put them at #11, which is wild, so hopefully I'm proven to be right on this one, because I really do think CYC can make a deep playoff run.

This was a very fun match to watch no matter what you really like from watching TP games. Do you like a lot of caps, well G3 is perfect for you! If you want some defensive slugfests, then G2H2 is perfect for you! If you like close, tight games, then G1 and G2 are perfect for you! This game delivered and then some, with great play from everyone involved. Let's look at it this way, the worst DNISH was 68.8, while in the MB8 - NIP game, the third best DNISH was 66.2, so yeah this was fun.

On offense, Tinderfella led the group with 471 hold and nine caps and the 96 ONISH. He had help from Button and Omnivore, with Button getting the 75.3 ONISH, five caps, and 306 hold, while Omnivore had the 67.5 ONISH, three caps, and 444 hold. For CYC, you had naga taking over with the 92.2 ONISH, eight caps, and 447 hold, almost matching Tinderfella cap for cap, hold for hold. bibo fell to B-Team this week, and he had 335 hold and four caps, while korso had a subpar performance, with 197 hold and just one cap. He had the worst positional NISh in this match with the 35.1 ONISH.

For the defense, I was a little worried about how the CYC defense would look like with rena and wallsquirrel leading the pack. Turns out, I forgot about the other two defenders on this team, with fanseman taking charge with the 96.1 DNISH, 313 prevent, and 33 returns. Then you have Sanitence, who's a Euro offender, that did great on defense with 535 prevent, 48 returns, and the 77.9 DNISH. rena and wallsquirrel had solid performances, with rena getting the 76.6 DNISH and squirrel having the 68.8 DNISH. For BCC, Blob and KahnMan were a great defense, combining for over 1600 prevent, 96 returns, and averaging an 88 DNISH together. It's honestly kind of wild that CYC won the first two games based on those stats, but I guess the third game really padded the numbers for BCC.

This seemed like a defensive struggle looking at the stats. You have both teams with below average hold, with CYC actually getting the least amount of team hold this week, and good prevent numbers. The biggest differences seem to be with tags, returns, pops, and RIB/QR. When it came to tags and returns, CYC had 60 more tags and 56 more returns than the BCC defense, which is amazing, but can also be due to the fact that CYC had four defenders while BCC had two. If you take the averages, then the BCC defense averaged 48 returns, while the CYC defense averaged 36 returns. BCC also had a 0.488 P/HA compared to CYC's 0.33 P/HA, though I suspect G3 helping that stat out significantly, considering BCC combined for 14 minutes of prevent while CYC had just 9. Very low H/G numbers for both teams, with CYC getting the worst H/G ratio again, and also BCC and CYC had high F/G ratios and not a lot of good handoffs, with BCC this time getting the least amount of good handoffs. BCC also had pretty low tags and returns, coming near the bottom in both categories.

CYC's RIB and QR rates were better than BCC, with both metrics being near the top of the league. BCC's Chain% was pretty bad, actually the worst in the league. CYC had more QRs and RIBs, while BCC kept the NDPops to a minimal, but CYC had the better KD. I'm so tired I'm sorry I can't keep writing.

CONCLUSION

Close matches, CYC's offense had a solid two games and then BCC took over the third game, so it's hard to just use stats for this one. Both of these teams have the potential to make deep runs, and I'm happy that at least one of my rankings turned out to be validated. Strong defensive performance from BCC, so it's nice to see the CYC offense still find a way to get around it. Fun games.
