NLTP NewsRoom Hub - BAP vs. INC (B)

The community really liked BAP's B-Team, ranking them 2nd, but I had questions about their defense, mainly about if UNIT could take the role of a lead defender in just his second season. I ranked them 6th with that question.

For INC, I liked the defense but the offense kind of fell flat for me, so I put them at 7th, while the community actually ranked them lower than me at #9. I guess the community also wasn't too high on this team composition.

Will BAP's defense prove to be pretty good or will INC's offense prove to be potent or will both of those things happen and make me look like an idiot? Who knows.

It was a sweep for BAP, but it was a close sweep. A -8 cap differential while getting swept isn't something to scoff at, because the games were close but INC just couldn't seal the deal. I know Logi has experience with that after being on my S18 B-Team, when we got swept the first two weeks but our cap diffs were like -7 and -8, and that team ended up going to the Buper, so that bodes well for his team.

I can't say I was expecting big brother to be the caps and hold leader for his team after this week, so that was a nice surprise. He got the 97.4 ONISH, nine caps, and 516 hold, which surpassed his O partner Randy, who had the 85.7 ONISH, seven caps, and 406 hold. big brother / Randy really worked well, and aerrow didn't even show up this week. Imagine if he did. Sorry l suck also contributed with four caps and 220 hold, so this was a strong offensive trio. PASS / Logi were a solid O partnership for INC, but not at the same level as BAP, with a combined 12 caps and 750 hold, and both ONISHs in the mid-80s. Zoomie had 331 hold and three caps, so not as strong as the BAP offensive trio here.

UNIT-01 ended up taking over the lead defender role seamlessly, with the 93.5 DNISH, 760 prevent, and 53 returns. He came 5th in prevent and 6th in returns this week. His D partner in JH13 also had a great week, with the 87 DNISH, 592 prevent, and 52 returns. For now, a very solid showing for this starting defense. For INC, im a goat did what he usually does and had a solid showing with 687 prevent and 55 returns, but BirdReynolds wasn't at the level of JH13, with just 544 prevent and 25 returns. They also had 18 with them, and he had the most prevent of the INC defenders with 610, and also had 39 returns. With an average of about 670 prevent and 52 returns between the BAP defense, and an average of 607 prevent and 40 returns for the INC defense, seems like the BAP defense had the upper hand here.

While BAP had the second-least amount of hold for the week, they easily counteracted that with the highest score% for the week, at 13.8%. That even beats the LST score%, and those guys had 38 caps. BAP also had the second-lowest F/G ratio out of all the teams, so succinctly put, this BAP offense knew how to grab efficiently and get out. I will say that while the BAP offense was solid in many aspects, having the second-least amount of good handoffs coupled with relatively low Chain% and Spark% might be an issue they'd have to work on. For INC, they did well to limit BAP to a low amount of hold, but they had 277 pops, which is 68 more pops than BAP, so that's not really great. The offense seemed to be doing well, with 59 good handoffs and solid Chain and Spark rates, and they were 4th in grabs. The main issue seems to be that score rate at just 7.67%, because when your opposing team is almost doubling your score rate, there is going to be an issue.

The INC defense had a good amount of prevent, but they were bottom three for both returns and tags. That coupled with their low RIB% and QR% tell me that this defense struggled once BAP got out of base. INC also had a relatively low KD, while BAP had a top three KD, but INC had a solid P/R number, so that's nice? Honestly both defenses seemed kinda similar when it came to their playstyles, heavy on prevent but light on returns, with average NRTags but very low NDPops. The BAP defense was just better at creating blocks for their offenders to cap, while the INC defense struggled to do that.

CONCLUSION

Close matches despite the BAP sweep, and I see some bright spots with both teams. For BAP, the score rate was very good, almost doubling INC's rate, which kind of compensated for their low amount of grabs, hold, good handoffs. For INC, their offense was also seeing some success against the BAP defense, but I felt like the real difference came from both defenses. INC's QR% was 20%, which means that they didn't get a lot of quick returns, meaning that BAP was able to grab and hold for a few seconds at the least, which could mean the difference between multiple caps and OD saves. Also INC had waaaaaay more pops than BAP, which if I do the math, added up to 204 seconds of respawn time, which is almost 3.5 minutes of just balls respawning, which leads to a lot of caps. I think BAP deserved to take the sweep, but INC definitely has some positives to draw off here, like their offensive output in terms of grabs / GHO, and their defense being solid with prevent. For BAP, once aerrow shows up I think their hold numbers will be propped up, as well as the good handoffs number, so I wouldn't worry too much about them.
