WEEK 1
WEEK 1
LST Sweeps the Week
Out of all of the teams, I didn't expect LST to be the only one to sweep both A and B this week. A surprising sweep of DTW's A-Team paired with an absolute shellacking of the B-Team puts LST at the top of the standings for both leagues. BAP and MB8 came close, with a sweep on B and A, respectively, but they couldn't get the sweep for the other league, with BAP splitting on A and MB8 losing two of three on B. Congratulations to LST for being the #1 in both leagues. For now.
DTW is Definitely Not Unbreakable
Do the Wire is the only team this week to get swept on both A and B, which is part surprising and part understandable. Their B-Team really looked bad yesterday, and it made sense that they got swept, but damn they have a -31 cap differential, and it's just Week 1! The A-Team getting swept was a surprise, so yeah that's not a good look. someday is going to have to either hope that the A-Team gets better, or make some drastic moves on B-Team.
Cyclists Put the Pedal to the Metal Against BCC
The best match this week on B-Team was the Cyclists against Bohemian Cap City in my opinion. I had the Cyclists ranked #4 and BCC ranked #1, and while the community had actually put CYC as the #10 team, I feel vindicated in my power ranking after the games. Cyclists won the series 2-1 against BCC, with two close victories to start out and then fading in the third game. The CYC offense stood their ground against the BCC defense, I love it. This is potentially a Foci Four matchup in the future, so it's nice to see how they did in the first week.
A Lot of Splits
Out of the 12 matchups this week, only four of them were clean sweeps, which is nice. Only two sweeps came from A-Team, which shows the type of parity we have in the league, where any team could be another one. For B-Team, it's harder to sweep a matchup, but kudos to everyone who at least managed to pick up one game in order to prevent getting swept. This season is gearing up to be great and closely contested from the get-go.
Rosters Look Good....So Far
For B-Team, the main issue was if rookies would ghost and rosters would get really thin. It's one of the reasons why we didn't do C-Team this season, because we were worried about the thin roster issue. It seems like the rosters are going steadily so far. Three B-Teams had eight players show up, and no one had less than five players show, so there wasn't a four-player roster playing 60 minutes each. It's a good start, but it's all about what happens later in the season once teams start getting eliminated or fatigue starts setting in. Then we may see a lot more ghosts.
The NLTP Community Sucks at Evaluating Teams
It's honestly wild that the NLTP community continues to completely miss the mark when it comes to ranking teams. I'm just going off the Preseason Community Rankings that iSuck did, but boy were there a lot of misses. On A-Team, Weed the People, the community's #3 ranked team, split Miami Ballphins, which was the community's 11th ranked team. You also have NIP (#1) getting swept by MB8 (#10), LBT (#7) splitting GES (#12), and BAP (#4) splitting INC (#9). For B-Team you have Cyclists (#10) winning the series 2-1 against the community's #1 ranked team in BCC. The community is bad.
