Kehren (pronounced key-ren) are creatures that live on the Diethelm world. They average 7-10 feet long but have been known to be longer. They have rock-like flesh with a cylindrical maw with razor teeth that can grind rock and flesh alike They are aggressive and have been known to wipe out whole mining camps of Diethelm. The Diethelm hate them but have a symbiosis relationship with them since they are best described as being reverse-burrowing creatures. Instead of holes, they leave rock rich in minerals in their wake. This rock is what the Diethelm mine but more than once a Diethelm has been returning from the mine and finds a path that was clear only days ago to be blocked. Kehren come in two types: ones that live underground and one they live in the sky. The one they live in the sky will drop boulders, more than one Diethelm of above-ground town has had to be repaired due to falling boulders. The Sky Kehren do “burrow” for about one month every year. It is theorized that this is a month that they mate with their counterparts below however this has never been proven due to the danger involved in proving this. Due to their increased activity in this month the Deithelm in the mine take this month off as a holiday to return to their strongholds and see their family which they may not have seen the past several months. Also at this time when the Feast of the Deities takes place.
