The Neilston Men's Group is a local community group offering support and friendship to local men in our wee village in East Renfrewshire.

Our next meeting will be in Neilston Bowling Club at 10:00 a.m. on the 7th of June. After that we might go down to Lochy's for a game of pool.
Some things we're looking at for later in the year are:
a tour of Glasgow Central Station
a tour of the Glasgow Necropolis
a visit to Dean Castle Country Park
a visit to Paisley Museum, when it eventually reopens

Both the men's and ladies groups manned stands in the Glen Halls for the Neilston Probationary Funding event and we're happy to declare that both were successful in securing £1,200 in funding for the year ahead.
Many thanks to everyone that gave us their support and to Neilston Community Council for organizing the event.

Given what looked like a reasonable weather forecast earlier in the week, we had intended to go for another walk at Castle Semple Loch. But, Scottish weather being the way it is, that didn't happen. 😞 More details here.

We had our usual breakfast roll and hot drink, followed by a visit from Vidya from local catering/takeaway service Wee Veggies. More about that here.
After that, we had a social sub-committee meeting looking at places to go, things to see, etc.

We had another joint event with Neilston Golden Girls for some lunch and entertainment in Neilston Bowling Club. We didn't get any details of the act though.

We had our usual breakfast roll and hot drink, followed by our Annual General Meeting, where we elected a new committee as follows:

Mentioning that there's new Indian restaurant in Barrhead and Raymond had heard that the new one Rouken Glen Park was good got some mouths watering for a curry.
So, opting for an outing to the park, we headed to the Rockend Mill Bar & Restaurant for lunch. More details here.

We were treated to a full breakfast (egg, bacon, lorne sausage, black pudding, tattie scone and beans) in Neilston Bowling Club. After that and in the spirit of balancing the universe, Kerry Cameron from East Renfrewshire Community Learning and Development gave us another Strength and Balance for Men workout.

15 of us had an evening out to see The Spirit of Bad Company & Free show at Eastwood Theatre . It's a show dedicated to reproducing the classic songs sung by Paul Rodgers throughout his career with both Free and Bad Company. More about that here.

We had our usual breakfast roll, drink and chat in Neilston Bowling Club for a breakfast roll and hot drink.
Kerry Cameron from East Renfrewshire Community Learning and Development then gave us an introductory Strength and Balance for Men class, which I think we all appreciated and Kerry might have got a few more recruits for her Thursday sessions at 12:30 p.m. in Neilston Leisure Centre.

We had another joint lunch event with Neilston Golden Girls in Neilston Bowling Club, after which we were entertained by cabaret singer Jill Ryan, who previously sang for us in 2024 as Robyn Brooks. More details here.

We had our usual breakfast roll, drink and chat in Neilston Bowling Club for a breakfast roll and hot drink.
We were joined by Kerry Cameron from East Renfrewshire Community Learning and Development, who gave us some information about the free Strength and Balance for Men classes coming soon to Neilston Leisure Centre.
Kerry also offered to come back and give us a session in the club on the 6th of March.

We had had what's turning into a possible annual Burns Lunch event in Neilston Bowling Club, where we had the haggis piped in by Graham Walker of Neilston and District Pipe Band and addressed, as is the ritual, followed by a recitation by Michael Carrol of the Burns poem "Tam O'Shanter".
