We were looking forward to this outing - a visit into Glasgow for some dinner and a music show. Here's the sight that greeted me in Neilston Railway Station waiting room on the day - "Ozzy" and friends!
For dinner, Raymond had suggested The Lauder's in Sauchiehall Street and it was excellent. Lauder's, as it was originally called, dates back to 1836 so it's one of Glasgow's oldest and best known bars.
We'd booked a table for 15 and with a bit of re-arranging, we all fitted in nicely together. They do a very decent afternoon/early evening menu with a drink for under £10 and I think everyone enjoyed it and it gave us a good chance for a natter before we'd soon be immersed in some seriously loud music. The staff were also very friendly and helpful and I'm sure we'd all be happy to go back there again.
Lauders is also very handy for the Pavilion as it's practically next door. Anyway, on to the show...
Dating back to 1904 when it opened as a music hall, the Pavilion has been a well-known venue for theatre and music events and it hasn't changed very much in all that time. Raymond had booked us a block of seats in two rows so we'd be closer together and they had a very good view of the stage.
The "show" is basically a covers band but a very good one and with excellent production for live stage events. They mostly play rock music from the 1970's and 80's, which is good for a bunch of old fogies like us.
Their usual lead vocalist was out of action and was replaced by Matt James of heavy metal band The Raven Age and he was very good. They gave us a couple of hours of the kind of music we grew up with - Led Zeppelin, Wings, Kansas, Fleetwood Mac, Meat Loaf, Queen, George Harrison, Pink Floyd, Eagles, Patti Smith, Derek and the Dominoes, Status Quo, The Who, AC/DC, ELO, and more. Those really brought back memories of some of live concerts I'd attended years before.
Here's a couple more photos taken on the night and the show's 2025 trailer from YouTube:
I think we all had a good outing and many thanks to Raymond Kerr for organizing it all.
The Ultimate Classic Rock Show seems to tour regularly so you can find more details about the band and upcoming events on their web site and there are more videos on their YouTube channel:
