Once again, we joined in with Neilston Golden Girls for a bit of lunch in Neilston Bowling Club, followed by some musical entertainment from local cabaret singers Bert Turner and Jimmy Goldie.
We had a tasty bacon roll or two with tea or coffee for lunch, followed by cake, pancakes, clootie dumpling and rocky road for afters.
Many thanks to Raymond and the ladies for organizing the food and the kitchen and to James and Ross for opening the bar.
Here's a few more photos taken on the day:
After lunch was over, Bert and Jimmy gave us over an hour of entertaining songs from the 50s, 60s and 70s. I say lads, but these Barrhead boys are well into their 80s and still doing great at the singing.
Bert started singing when he was just 13 and the guys entertained us with songs by the likes of Elvis, Frank Sinatra, Pat Boone, Tony Christie, Jim Reeves, Kenny Rogers, Dean Martin, and Neil Diamond.
Even those of us still under 80 appreciated the music of the era and everyone enjoyed the afternoon. Our Ronnie was in the same class at school as Bert so they had a good catch-up chat as well.
You'll find a few audio recordings made of the boys singing on the day here:
