We're delighted to announce that we've received a Magic Little Grant through the partnership between Localgiving and People’s Postcode Trust. Magic Little Grants provides funding for charities and community groups.

People’s Postcode Trust is a grant-giving charity funded by players of People’s Postcode Lottery.

Localgiving is the UK’s leading membership and support network for local charities and community groups. We received £500 to help combat loneliness and promote friendship in our local men's group.

Just a note of a few upcoming activities for 2024...

In January, we're looking at going to a rugby match at the GHA Rugby Club in Giffnock.

We have a few other ideas brewing, like a tour of the Tennant's Brewery, a train ride to Oban with a visit to the distillery, a tour of the hollow mountain at Cruachan Power Station and maybe even a trip "doon the watter" to Rothesay. Watch this space!

We went to Brig O'Lea Park to see Neilston F.C. play at home against Thorn Athletic with an exploratory visit to Crofthead Bowling Club afterwards. It was definitely a game of two halves - more details here: Neilston F.C.

Great news! Our grant application to the Neilston Participatory Budgeting fund operated by the Neilston Community Council has been approved and we've been awarded £3,000.

June Jones, Secretary of the Neilston Windfarm Legacy, joined us for breakfast in the Parish Church Halls and, from all perspectives, was very pleased by what we were doing in the community. We also had a visit from a photographer from Barrhead News, who took a group shot for an upcoming article. This isn't that though - this one was taken by Anwar Rafiq.

Jim Renfrew gave 13 of us an informative and entertaining presentation called Norway to Neilston, which was about how 525 Norwegians ended up in Neilston during WWII. More details here: Norway to Neilston

Our grant funding application to Neilston Windfarm Legacy has been approved, subject to our acceptance of their conditions. The board met this morning to discuss that and we're happy to say that we've accepted their generous offer of £3,000.

We had an outing to the Dams to Darnley Country Park for a walk round Balgray Reservoir to the Brock Burn Waterfall. More details here: Dams to Darnley Country Park

Sadly, we've just learned that one of our group members, Billy Fox, has passed away this morning. The funeral will be at 2pm on Thursday, the 20th of July at The Hurlet Crematorium.

Many thanks to Sandra McDermid for her brilliant donation of 18 beautifully filled and decorated plant pots. We're hoping to sell these locally, which should make us £270.

We have a new home! We've just been informed that Neilston Parish Church have agreed to let us meet in the church halls, which means we'll now have enough space to start recruiting new members.

There's a feasibility study being looked at by Community Enterprise and the NDT regarding the future of Crofthead Mill. Includes an online survey and a drop in visit/tour on 25th May at 6pm if anyone is interested. See here

We had our first meeting at Brig O'Lea Park where we were made very welcome, given a tour of the grounds and facilities and presented with club scarves and season tickets for the rest of the 2023 season.
