Christmas Lunch 2023
As a bit of a celebration of us having an excellent first year, the group laid on a Christmas lunch and entertainment in Crofthead Bowling Club for all of our members and some of those folks that have supported us this year.
The lunch was excellent...
For starters, Raymond's wife Susan made a huge pot of delicious soup and there was also pâté and toast.

Raymond, Ted and Stevie were up early and prepared us all a traditional Christmas main course of roast turkey, stuffing, pigs in blankets, roast potatoes, carrots, peas and, of course, brussels sprouts.

For dessert, we had a choice of strawberry or chocolate gateau with cream or ice cream.

To finish, there was tea or coffee and mince pies.
We were joined by Raymond Kerr's wife Susan, Sandra McDermid and her daughter Erin. Sandra and Erin had donated 18 lovely potted plants to us earlier in the year, which were really appreciated as it was before we'd managed to secure any major funding. Jim McCulloch also brought in Simon Sims, who was going to be singing for us later, and he joined us for the meal too. Some of you might recognize him as he often sings in Glasgow's Buchanan Street and was recently on ITV's The Voice.
I think we all enjoyed the meal, pulling the crackers, wearing daft party hats, groaning at the awful cracker jokes and generally enjoying the camaraderie and banter going round the tables.
Once everyone was full, we'd cleared everything away and the dishes were done, we headed upstairs to the lounge for the entertainment and some light refreshments.

Simon entertained us well and then Sandra and Erin surprised us all by giving everyone there a wee present, all beautifully wrapped in Christmas paper.
We have to thank everyone involved in making the day one to remember. Susan Kerr for that tasty soup; Raymond, Ted and Stevie for cooking that excellent turkey lunch; Susan, Sandra and Erin for helping lay out the tables and serving us old codgers; Jim for bringing Simon Sims; and Simon for giving us a very enjoyable afternoon's entertainment.
