After a very nice cooked breakfast, we had a visit from from Anne Marie Kennedy and Janice Connery from Community Transport East Renfrewshire, who offer a range of transport services to the community.
The services they can provide are:
free transport to and from medical appointments such as your doctor's surgery, clinics and hospitals.
afternoon teas on Thursdays between 2pm and 4pm at underCOVER, Voluntary Action East Renfrewshire’s building on Kelburn Street, Barrhead (Next to Tesco). Cost is £5 and includes door to door transport.
assisted shopping trips with the social aspect of meeting up for a cuppa and browsing the shops.
minibus hire. They have one 8 seater and one 13 seater. Both are wheelchair accessible and are available for regular work as well as one-off hires. After a one-off registration fee of £25, charges are £15/hour with a discount for over four hours.
Call Anne Marie on 0141 4420022 for more information on any of the above.
They're currently looking for volunteer drivers with their own car as well as volunteer minibus drivers. They'll cover any extra costs as regards your insurance if your over 70 and they'll pay you 45p/mile.
You'd need a D1 class driving license to drive the larger vehicle - anyone that got their license before 1997 will probably have that. You can find out more about the requirements here: https://www.gov.uk/driving-a-minibus
The application forms on their web site seem a bit broken so you can either contact Anne Marie on 0141 4420022 or check them out online on Volunteer Scotland.
