Lydia, unlike her 2 older sisters, did not move to a city after she married and left home. Lydia and William with their children moved from one rural farm area to another, from the Town of Lockport to the Town of Shelby to the Town of Ridgeway to the Town of Somerset and the village of Barker. William worked at various farms for about 40 years combined (see 1890-1900 Homesteads & Census). After William died in 1938, Lydia lived with her son Clarence on Main St. in Barker according to the 1950 US Census. Lydia and William had 4 children, 2 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and several great-great-grandchildren.
Lydia and William Mittlestadt rented homes likely near the farms where he worked mainly in the Town of Somerset, Niagara County. They were renting on Haight Road in Barker, NY when William died. Lydia passed away on Main Street in Barker with Clarence her son. Clarence died in 1968 at 8747 Main St, Barker but there's no house at that address now.

✞UNION-SUN AND JOURNAL, Tuesday, March 26, 1968, Mittelstadt, Ex-Harrison Employee, Dies BARKER - Clarence Mittelstadt, 61, of 8747 Main St., a retired Harrison employee, died Monday (March 25, 1968) at Roswell Park Memorial Institute after a long illness. He was born June 9, 1906, in Newfane, the son of William and Lydia Jagow Mittelstadt. On Dec. 2, 1950, he was married to Patricia Sargent [see below], who survives him. Mr. Mittelstadt was an Air Force veteran of World War II. Ill health forced him to retire two years ago from Harrison Radiator Division, General Motors Corp., in Lockport, where he had been employed for nine years. Surviving, besides his widow, are two sisters, Mrs. Eugene (Irene) Stoll of Middleport and Mrs. Lloyd (Helen) Herendeen of Barker; also several nieces and nephews, Friends may call at the Bream Funeral Home, Main Street, Gasport, this evening from 7 to 9 and tomorrow from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday. ✞LOCKPORT, N. Y., UNION-SUN AND JOURNAL, Friday, March 29, 1968 MITTELSTADT Funeral services for Clarence W. Mittelstadt of Barker were held at the Bream Funeral Home, Main Street, Gasport, on Thursday at 11 a.m. The bearers were John Goodnick, Walter Raduns, Gerald Gurney, Bruce Pease, Arthur and Melvin Jago. Rev. Wilbur Lottes officiated. Interment was in West Ridgeway Cemetery.
note- Three of the bearers were Clarence Mittelstadt's first cousins, his mother Lydia's (Jago) nephews: Rose (Jago) Goodnick's son John Goodnick, John Jago's son Arthur Jago, and Frederick Jago's son Melvin Jago. Walter Raduns may have been Frederick Jago's wife's nephew.
note- Clarence Mittelstadt's obituary states he married Patricia Sargent when he was 44 on 2 Dec 1950 after the 1950 US Census had been completed. There's no record of their marriage in the newspapers, the US Census, or FamilySearch. Only his obituary mentions his marriage and wife. There's no memorial for Patricia Mittelstadt in FindAGrave either. But there is a FindAGrave memorial for Patricia M Sargent Nickerson who married Robert Nickerson on February 2, 1952. There's also no record of Patricia and Robert's marriage except for her obituary (see below). Robert was much closer to Patricia's age than Clarence. Did Patricia at age 17 marry Clarence who was 28 years older, divorce him, and later marry Robert when she was 18, or is she a different Patricia?
