Married in 1906, in 1910 Hattie and Charles with daughters Alice and Hazel lived on a rented farm in the southern part of the Town of Lockport north of Rapids, NY. By 1920, Hattie and Charles acquired a farm (see Hattie and Charles's homestead on the main page) in north Clarence on Tonawanda Creek about 6 miles east of Hattie's sister Sophronia (Miller) Roszman's home in Rapids. In 1924 four years later, Hattie died at 41. Charles' obituary says he retired in 1955 at 73 although the 1950 US Census doesn't show him living on the farm. George Van Buren had taken over his father's farm by or before 1950. Hattie and Charles had 7 children, 21 grandchildren, and over 30 great-grandchildren. Also, Charles and Hattie's son Warren married Hattie's sister-in-law Mabel (Burdick) Miller's niece in 1933 (see below).
Charles and Hattie Van Buren's farm extended to the border of the Town of Newstead where Akron is located. On the 1938 Clarence Town Map, their farm was in the northeastern most corner of the town straddling Kelkenberg Rd. and extending north to Tonawanda Creek. The road was commonly called Creek Rd in 1920. Kelkenburg/Creek Rd. connects to Rapids/Burdick Rd. which crosses north into Royalton over Burdick's Bridge. Charles and Hattie's farm was about 1/3 mile from her brother Roy Miller's 1940 farm directly north across Tonawanda Creek, and about six (6) miles from her sister Sophronia (Miller) Roszman in Rapids, both on Tonawanda Creek Rd. in Niagara County. Charles and Hattie's farm was about 2 miles from Burdick's Bridge.

She had a heart of gold and was always very giving to everyone. She crewed for Greg Livadas and had many good times with hot air ballooning. My sincere sympathy. ✞Everyone just called her "Mom" because she was everyone's Mom. Shirley Jean Regan (Van Buren) passed into Heaven at the age of 89 on Thursday, October 5th, with her children at her side. Shirley was born in Lockport, New York and grew up in the country enjoying nature and the outdoors with her two sisters. She met William Regan in later years in Akron, where she was the head majorette and Bill played the snare drum in a drum and bugle corp. They were married for 46 years until his passing. Shirley was an adventurous and entrepreneurial woman. In the early 60s, Bill and Shirley, along with her parents, purchased a 57-acre park, beach and campground, formerly Bedford Beach, in Gasport and made lifelong friends. In 1967, they gathered all their belongings, sold the property and headed to Florida pulling a 21' travel trailer with four kids in tow.
Shirley's last residence in Florida was Clermont. She wanted a home with a fireplace on the water in a small town, and that is where she has lived for the last 28 years. Shirley was an avid antique collector and decorated her home with unique items. She loved Christmas, fishing, her puppies, playing bingo, the beach, horses, the Tampa Rays and the Miami Dolphins. Everyone loved her Christmas cookies, her potato salad, and her chicken and dumplings.
Shirley leaves behind 5 children: Jeff Krueger (wife Vicki), William Paul Regan Jr. (wife Jennifer), Rose Marie Regan Biddle, Mary Elizabeth Regan Spuckler (fiance JP) and Joseph J. Regan. She was the proud Grandma to Amanda, Will, and Kate Regan and Baile Biddle, and Great Grandma to 4.75 little ones. There will be a Celebration of Life to be held lakeside on November 11th, 2023, from 11-3 p.m. for family and friends to gather and share their love for Shirley.
