In the 1900 and 1910 US Census' E. Fred lived with his parents in Niagara Falls. By the 1930 census, E. Fred lived with just his mother in Niagara Falls since his father Frederick Jr. had died in 1921. E. Fred met and married Fanny Switzer in 1930. In the 1940 US Census for Royalton, E. Fred was living on Jacob and Augusta (Kleinhans) Miller's former farm with his wife Fanny, daughter Joan, son Russell, and his mother Dora. The census listed E. Fred as a farmer. His obituary said he'd moved to Royalton about 1931/1932 since his mother acquired the property from his deceased aunt Augusta (Kleinhans) Miller around 1930 (see 1855-1880 Homesteads and 1930-50 Homesteads). His obituary also said he was employed by the Curtiss-Wright Aircraft factory in Buffalo/Tonawanda (see photo below). After E. Fred died in 1942 and his mother Dora died in 1944, his widow Fanny sold the Miller Royalton farm, bought a nursing home in Niagara Falls (see photo below), and purchased a house at 278 High St. in Lockport (see photo below). Twenty-seven (27) years after Fred died, Fanny remarried Howard Shenk of Sanborn on 23 May 1970 in Lockport, moved to Dunnellon, Fl. with her new husband, and died there in 1984.

Frederick (Jr) and Dora Kleinhans' grocery store. It's possible that Fred Jr and E. Fred built this store since Fred Jr was a carpenter. E. Fred worked with his mother Dora here in 1930.
1929 Curtiss and Wright interests are merged and the new Curtiss-Wright Corporation moves to Buffalo, erecting a new factory (Plant #1) at Kenmore and Vulcan Sts. in the Town of Tonawanda dedicated to building military aircraft. (2002 Western Electric building, now a charter school, etc.)
Curtiss-Wright Corporation’s Plant #2, a 1.5 million sq. ft. factory built in 1940-1941 on the site of the present Buffalo-Niagara International Airport to manufacture Curtiss-Wright’s P-40, known variously as the Warhawk, Kittyhawk, and Tomahawk.
note- Likely too old for the WWII US armed forces, E. Fred Kleinhans may have worked at either plant. Hard to say how long he worked for Curtis-Wright but he was listed in the 1930 US Census in Niagara Falls working at the family grocery store, and in the 1940 US Census, he was listed as a farmer.
