John 7:14-24
Jesus Teaches About God
14 Not until halfway through the festival did Jesus go up to the temple courts and begin to teach. 15 The Jews there were amazed and asked, “How did this man get such learning without having been taught?”
16 Jesus answered, “My teaching is not my own. It comes from the one who sent me. 17 Anyone who chooses to do the will of God will find out whether my teaching comes from God or whether I speak on my own. 18 Whoever speaks on their own does so to gain personal glory, but he who seeks the glory of the one who sent him is a man of truth; there is nothing false about him. 19 Has not Moses given you the law? Yet not one of you keeps the law. Why are you trying to kill me?”
20 “You are demon-possessed,” the crowd answered. “Who is trying to kill you?”
21 Jesus said to them, “I did one miracle, and you are all amazed. 22 Yet, because Moses gave you circumcision (though actually it did not come from Moses, but from the patriarchs), you circumcise a boy on the Sabbath. 23 Now if a boy can be circumcised on the Sabbath so that the law of Moses may not be broken, why are you angry with me for healing a man’s whole body on the Sabbath? 24 Stop judging by mere appearances, but instead judge correctly.”
John 14:15-31
Jesus Promises the Holy Spirit
15 “If you love me, keep my commands. 16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever— 17 the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you. 18 I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you. 19 Before long, the world will not see me anymore, but you will see me. Because I live, you also will live. 20 On that day you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you. 21 Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me. The one who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love them and show myself to them.”
22 Then Judas (not Judas Iscariot) said, “But, Lord, why do you intend to show yourself to us and not to the world?”
23 Jesus replied, “Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them. 24 Anyone who does not love me will not obey my teaching. These words you hear are not my own; they belong to the Father who sent me.
25 “All this I have spoken while still with you. 26 But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. 27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.
28 “You heard me say, ‘I am going away and I am coming back to you.’ If you loved me, you would be glad that I am going to the Father, for the Father is greater than I. 29 I have told you now before it happens, so that when it does happen you will believe. 30 I will not say much more to you, for the prince of this world is coming. He has no hold over me, 31 but he comes so that the world may learn that I love the Father and do exactly what my Father has commanded me.
John 4:23-26
God is Spirit -Worship Him in Spirit and Truth
23 Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. 24 God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.”
25 The woman said, “I know that Messiah” (called Christ) “is coming. When he comes, he will explain everything to us.”
26 Then Jesus declared, “I, the one speaking to you—I am he.”
Jesus taught at the temple courts...The Jews were amazed at what He knew and what He taught about the Bible...He did not have another teacher or Rabbi teaching Him...So where did His knowledge of Scripture come from?...What Jesus knew had come from heaven...What He knew had came from God...Some of the Jews ask Him about where He had obtained His knowledge of Scripture...Jesus answered them and said, “My teaching is not My own...It comes from the One who sent Me...Anyone who chooses to do the will of God will find out whether My teaching comes from God or whether I speak on My own...Whoever speaks on their own does so to gain personal glory, but he who seeks the glory of the One who sent Him is a man of truth; there is nothing false about him...
Jesus is telling us that His teaching is different from the other teachers and Rabbis...His teachings are not His own...His teachings comes from God, the One who sent Him...Those who truly seek God, know that Jesus was sent to earth by God and that His teachings are from God...Jesus never says that another Rabbi or teacher had helped Him learn the Bible...That was the customary way to learn...Jesus repeatedly says that He came from God and God was the One who sent Him...And it is God who has provided Him with the knowledge that He has...Jesus continues to tell us that His knowledge and His information about God and about heaven is from God...Jesus never claims to be taught by another Rabbi...No, He is a Special Rabbi...All other Rabbis have learned under other Rabbis from earth...The other Rabbis were disciples of those who taught them...Jesus is the Lone Disciple and Rabbi of God...God has taught Him...Jesus Himself claims that He was from God and no other Rabbi has schooled Him...This makes Him different, very different...
So with no other teacher, other than God -Jesus is a Special Rabbi...So Jesus is our Mediator from God, and our Way to God...His Words are the Greatest Words ever spoken and He is ushering in changes that would mean we will look to Him now as this Special Rabbi and the One sent from God...He is the Messiah...
Jesus then talks about the alternative of us not following God and His will...So let us say that we do our own will and want to do our own will...Whoever speaks on their own and does their own will does so to gain personal glory...But he who seeks the glory of God and the actual One who sent Him is a man of truth; there is nothing false about him....Jesus says that if anyone is truly seeking God is caring more for God's will than his own will and will find the truth, and believe in Him...Making the right choices means following God's will...Finding the Truth means following God...And Jesus promises us the Holy Spirit...And the Holy Spirit will guide us to the Truth and to God...The Spirit of Truth is the Holy Spirit...The world cannot accept the Holy Spirit and will often reject Him, because we neither sees Him nor knows Him... But Jesus' followers know the Holy Spirit and He will guide us to the Truth and to God...For the Holy Spirit is in us, and those who follow Jesus will get to know Him...
We judge most of the times with our eyes...But Jesus says we are to stop judging by mere appearances and our eyes only, if we want to judge correctly...Judge with more than with our eyes, thoughts and emotions...Look at your Spiritual Heart and come to believe...For God is Spirit and we are to come to worship and follow Him in Spirit and in Truth...
