John 17:20-26
20 “My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, 21 that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. 22 I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one— 23 I in them and you in me—so that they may be brought to complete unity. Then the world will know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me.
24 “Father, I want those you have given me to be with me where I am, and to see my glory, the glory you have given me because you loved me before the creation of the world.
25 “Righteous Father, though the world does not know you, I know you, and they know that you have sent me. 26 I have made you known to them, and will continue to make you known in order that the love you have for me may be in them and that I myself may be in them.”
John 17:3-5
Jesus Finishes His Work for His Father
3 Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent. 4 I have brought you glory on earth by finishing the work you gave me to do. 5 And now, Father, glorify me in your presence with the glory I had with you before the world began.
John 6:28-29
The Work of Believers
28 Then they asked him, “What must we do to do the works God requires?”
29 Jesus answered, “The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent.”
John 14:1-3
Jesus Will Prepare a Room for Us
1 “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. 2 My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.
God sent Jesus to teach us about Himself...He also, as part of His plan was to have His Son die for us and pay our sin and moral debt...Jesus did this when He died on the cross for our sins...
The night before His arrest Jesus prayed...He prayed for all believers...He prayed for His disciples...And He prayed for Himself...In these prayers, He talks about bringing glory to His Father...It maybe not only part of His purpose, while He was on earth, to bring glory to His Father, but it maybe our purpose as well...Jesus says "I have brought you glory on earth by finishing the work you gave me to do...And now, Father, glorify me in your presence with the glory I had with you before the world began."...Jesus is finishing the work His Father has ask of Him and must now die on the cross for Him to complete the glorious and gracious plan of His Father's...And in God's Plan, we see the Love He has for us...He sent His One and Only Son, to die for mankind...He sends His Son to die for me and for you...This is because we have sinned, and are not the person we can be or will be -when we get to heaven and see Them...
Now Jesus was also ask what work we must do, while we are on earth for God...His answer is a simple one: “The work of God is this: to believe in the one He has sent.”...Our work for God is to believe in the One He has sent...Our work is to have and to keep the faith...He tells us that eternal life is to get to know His Father and Him...So our work is twofold...We must believe and get to know Jesus, for He is the Messiah and the One God sent...And we must believe and get to know our Father...We must get to know God because He is the One who sent us Jesus, our Messiah and Savior...When we do our work and believe and get to know and have a relationship with Them, then Jesus will prepare a room for us in heaven and come back to get us, when that room is ready and prepared...
