John 8:1-11 (KJV)
Go and Sin No More
1 Jesus went unto the mount of Olives.
2 And early in the morning he came again into the temple, and all the people came unto him; and he sat down, and taught them.
3 And the scribes and Pharisees brought unto him a woman taken in adultery; and when they had set her in the midst,
4 They say unto him, Master, this woman was taken in adultery, in the very act.
5 Now Moses in the law commanded us, that such should be stoned: but what sayest thou?
6 This they said, tempting him, that they might have to accuse him. But Jesus stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground, as though he heard them not.
7 So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.
8 And again he stooped down, and wrote on the ground.
9 And they which heard it, being convicted by their own conscience, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest, even unto the last: and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst.
10 When Jesus had lifted up himself, and saw none but the woman, he said unto her, Woman, where are those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee?
11 She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.
John 5:1-15
Stop Sinning
1 Some time later, Jesus went up to Jerusalem for one of the Jewish festivals. 2 Now there is in Jerusalem near the Sheep Gate a pool, which in Aramaic is called Bethesda and which is surrounded by five covered colonnades. 3 Here a great number of disabled people used to lie—the blind, the lame, the paralyzed. [4] 5 One who was there had been an invalid for thirty-eight years. 6 When Jesus saw him lying there and learned that he had been in this condition for a long time, he asked him, “Do you want to get well?”
7 “Sir,” the invalid replied, “I have no one to help me into the pool when the water is stirred. While I am trying to get in, someone else goes down ahead of me.”
8 Then Jesus said to him, “Get up! Pick up your mat and walk.” 9 At once the man was cured; he picked up his mat and walked.
The day on which this took place was a Sabbath, 10 and so the Jewish leaders said to the man who had been healed, “It is the Sabbath; the law forbids you to carry your mat.”
11 But he replied, “The man who made me well said to me, ‘Pick up your mat and walk.’ ”
12 So they asked him, “Who is this fellow who told you to pick it up and walk?”
13 The man who was healed had no idea who it was, for Jesus had slipped away into the crowd that was there.
14 Later Jesus found him at the temple and said to him, “See, you are well again. Stop sinning or something worse may happen to you.” 15 The man went away and told the Jewish leaders that it was Jesus who had made him well.
Jesus told the sinning adulteress to go and sin no more...Jesus, also told the man He healed near the Sheep Gate pool to stop sinning or something worse may happen to him...Jesus saved the adulteress' life and changed the life of the paralyzed one...Neither of them refused His help...He wanted to help them...Jesus LOVED the two, just as He LOVES us and helped and healed them despite maybe not agreeing with their lifestyles...We can particularly say that Jesus did not agree with the lifestyle of the adulteress...
When we sin therefore we can believe that Jesus is not looking at our lifestyle or worldview when we sin, but He helps as He did the adulteress...It is possible, and this is a guess, but Jesus may not have agreed with the worldview of the paralyzed one that He healed...We know that he sinned, because Jesus told him to stop sinning...So both people in that He helped here were sinners, as we all are -and more importantly He helped them...
We have a sinful nature and sin...So I expect I will sin again, and maybe again and again...I think Jesus expects this and if this is, in fact, true -then at that moment we repent and confess to Jesus that we have sinned are important moments in our lives...He wants us to sin no more...He wants us to stop sinning or something worse may happen to us...
