Roman's 12:1-2
What God's Will Is
1 Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. 2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.
Matthew 6:9-13
The LORD's Prayer
9 “This, then, is how you should pray:
“‘Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
10 your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
11 Give us today our daily bread.
12 And forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
13 And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from the evil one.’
Matthew 7:21-23
True and False Disciples
21 “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.22 Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?’ 23 Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’
Matthew 12:50
Whoever Does the Will of God is Jesus' Brothers and Sister and Mother
50 For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother.
John 6:38-40
Jesus Came Down From Heaven to do the Will of His Father
38 For I have come down from heaven not to do my will but to do the will of him who sent me. 39 And this is the will of him who sent me, that I shall lose none of all those he has given me, but raise them up at the last day. 40 For my Father’s will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day.”
Luke 10:27-28
Love God with all Your Heart, Soul, Strength, and Mind
27 He answered, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’; and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’”
28 “You have answered correctly,” Jesus replied. “Do this and you will live.”
When we are easily swayed by earthly things and do many things of earthly ways and interest...But St. Paul tells us to resist the ways of this earth and our will but to do the will of God...God's will is good, pleasing, and perfect...St. Paul wrote to the Romans, "Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind...Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—His good, pleasing and perfect will."...
Their is great importance in believing in the One who God sent to earth...There also is great importance in doing God's will on earth...When we do God's will we are told we become His brothers and sisters and mothers...We become closer to Him, when we are doing God's will...When we are very close to God, we love Him and do not want to hurt or offend Him...The will of God and the LOVE that God gives us and shows us are related...And our love to Him and our relationship with Him is an importance part of our faith...
In St. Matthew's gospel, we learn the importance of following and doing God's will...In Matthew's gospel, we are given the LORD's Prayer...When we say the LORD's Prayer, we see that the time has come for us to do the will of the Father on earth...Jesus' words are "Your Kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven."...And every time we say the LORD's Prayer, we are trying to do the will of God on earth, as it is done in heaven...This is emphasized later in in St. Matthew's gospel as Jesus teaches us that not everyone who says to Him, ‘LORD, LORD,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but only those who do the will of His Father in heaven.... And this is the will of the Father who sent Jesus, that He shall lose none of all those He has given Him, but He will raise them up on the last day...For My Father’s will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in Him shall have eternal life, and He will raise them up on the last day...
This is hard to do the will of God, because we so often want to do what we want to do...We do not always pause and think about, what would God wants us to do...St. Augustine said that when we truly love God, we will do what we please, because we are following our souls...St. Augustine said, "Love God and do whatever you please: for the soul trained in love to God will do nothing to offend the One who is Beloved."...
When you love God with all your heart, all your soul, all your strength and all your mind, you do the best not to offend Him...
