John 5:31-47
Testimonies About Jesus
31 “If I testify about myself, my testimony is not valid. 32 There is another who testifies in my favor, and I know that his testimony about me is valid.
33 “You have sent to John and he has testified to the truth. 34 Not that I accept human testimony; but I mention it that you may be saved. 35John was a lamp that burned and gave light, and you chose for a time to enjoy his light.
36 “I have testimony weightier than that of John. For the very work that the Father has given me to finish, and which I am doing, testifies that the Father has sent me. 37 And the Father who sent me has himself testified concerning me. You have never heard his voice nor seen his form, 38nor does his word dwell in you, for you do not believe the one he sent. 39 You diligently study the Scriptures because you think that by them you possess eternal life. These are the Scriptures that testify about me, 40 yet you refuse to come to me to have life.
41 “I do not accept praise from men, 42 but I know you. I know that you do not have the love of God in your hearts. 43 I have come in my Father’s name, and you do not accept me; but if someone else comes in his own name, you will accept him. 44 How can you believe if you accept praise from one another, yet make no effort to obtain the praise that comes from the only God?
45 “But do not think I will accuse you before the Father. Your accuser is Moses, on whom your hopes are set. 46 If you believed Moses, you would believe me, for he wrote about me. 47 But since you do not believe what he wrote, how are you going to believe what I say?”
In my life, I have seen sometimes how I have gotten bogged down in different things...When I was in high school, and I enjoyed it...High school helps prepare many for college and others to get ready for work...So I thought I would try college...I went on to college and I really enjoyed college...At the end of my forth year, with graduation coming up, I realized for one reason or another, I would rather stay in school, than graduate...I really was not ready to go to work...I would have rather stayed in school and taken more classes than graduate and get a job...Then after working thirty years, my wife ask me if I was ready to retire, and move on with that part of our lives...I purchased some retirement planning books, and places in Florida to go after one retires and realized I liked the reading of the books, more than I was ready to retire and leave the work force...The interesting thing was, that my job had changed, and it really wasn't that fun anymore, so retirement was the next logical step for us...
Sometimes we think to much, or we have to much knowledge and do not do enough...We need to be reborn...We need a transformation to and towards Jesus...I read many books and articles about baseball when I was young...If I would have never played baseball, I would never known what it "felt like" to get a base hit, to score a run, to win a game, to be a good sport, to be a good teammate...Sometimes without doing things, we miss the best of things...If we over think things, we can often miss some important things...We must realize in life that the journey is not better than the destination...Otherwise we would always be out on the road, always driving -and never really going anywhere...
Many of the Pharisees were good students of the Bible...They knew the Bible...The Pharisees searched and searched the scriptures diligently...They studied the Bible hard and long...The Pharisees were looking for the Golden Key, the Key to Life in the Scriptures they read...They actually spent all their lives diligently studying and searching the Scriptures for the purpose of life...They did not realize, the Truth, the Way, and the Purpose of Life was standing right in front of them, talking to them...
