I. Purpose of the Journal
As the flagship journal of the Institute of Taiwan Educational Studies, Journal of Taiwan Education Studies (the Journal) has published articles, essays, and reviews on the theory, policy, and practice of education since 2020. The Journal publishes six issues per year electronically. Each issue includes six sections: perspectives, themed articles, articles, international education, latest trend in education, and reviews. Starting in 2023, the first issue of each year includes a special section for the Lifetime Achievement Award in Educational Studies, showcasing the achievements of award recipients from the Institute of Taiwan Educational Studies (by invitation only).
II. Submission Guidelines
Educational Horizon: Each issue features one macro-perspective and inspiring article. The articles are solicited by invitation only, and does not accept unsolicited submissions.
Topic Article: The topics for each issue are: higher education (January issue), technical and vocational education (March issue), K-12 education (May issue), early childhood education (July issue), lifelong education (September issue), and teacher education (November issue).
Other Article: Articles published in this section include qualitative and quantitative research reports and scholarly essays.
International Education: Articles published in this section analyze the trend of reforms and development of education of different countries and discuss their implications for education in Taiwan.
Education Trend: Articles published in this section report on new findings and trend in educational studies, both in Taiwan and internationally.
Research Review: Articles published in this section respond to previously published articles in the Journal to offer insights or opinions, or comment on specific educational research topics, books, educational theories, policies, and practice.
Note that the same lead author should submit only one manuscript per section in any issue, and 1.5 submissions in total in one issue.
III. Length and Format
Educational Horizon: The length should generally be between 5,000 to 10,000 words in Chinese and between 3,000 to 5,000 in English.
Topic Article and Other Article: Each manuscript should generally be between 10,000 to 20,000 words in Chinese and should not exceed 25,000 words after revisions. Manuscripts written in English should not exceed 6,000 words.
International Education, Education Trend, and Research Review: Manuscripts should generally be between 5,000 to 10,000 words in Chinese. Manuscripts written in English should be between 3,000 to 5,000 words.
Word limit includes the abstract, main text, tables, figures, notes, and references, but does not include appendices.
Manuscripts should be written according to the APA 7th edition guideline. Detailed guidelines can be downloaded from the Journal’s website at http://www.ites.org.tw
IV. Article Submission, Fees, Review, Revision, and Publication
Submissions are welcome. Submissions should be typed, and can be in either Chinese or English. The Chinese abstract should not exceed 350 characters, and the English abstract should not exceed 250 words. Please include 3-5 keywords in both Chinese and English.
When submitting the manuscript via email, please include the full text in both Word and PDF formats (including the title, Chinese and English abstracts, and keywords), along with the authors’ basic information form, to the Journal’s editorial office. Do not include any personal information in the main text or the abstracts.
The Journal uses footnotes on the same page and APA 7th edition for references.
Review Process: The Journal accepts submissions year-round, and all manuscripts undergo rolling review. The editorial office aims to complete the review process within five months of receiving the manuscript. Accepted articles will be scheduled for publication as soon as possible, and the authors will be notified of the acceptance decision. No remuneration will be provided for published manuscripts.
Review Process: The Journal conducts double-blind peer review. Manuscripts that do not adhere to the Journal’s format requirements will be returned. After passing the editorial review, the manuscript will be sent to two experts for substantive review. Authors of accepted articles should format their manuscript according to the Journal’s manuscript template before publication.
Revisions: If the manuscript requires revision, the authors must complete the revisions within the specified time frame, highlighting the changes in red, and submit the revised manuscript and a response letter to the reviewers to the Journal. Manuscripts not revised within the deadline will be considered as withdrawn, unless an extension is granted by the Journal.
Publication Adjustments: The Journal reserves the right to edit or adjust the text and images of accepted manuscripts as necessary and to determine the issue in which the article will be published.
Simultaneous Submissions: Simultaneous submission to multiple journals or submission of manuscripts already accepted or published elsewhere is not permitted. Manuscripts found to have been submitted simultaneously will not be published, and the Journal does not accept resubmissions of rejected manuscripts.
Artificial intelligence (AI) and AI-assisted technologies should not be listed as authors or co-authors of a manuscript. If any AI or similar technologies are used to assist in the manuscript, the authors must disclose the name of the software or platform, the scope of its application, and its usage in an appropriate section such as the introduction, methods, or acknowledgments. The authors bear full responsibility for verifying and using any AI-generated content, and must ensure its use complies with standards of academic ethics and integrity.
Academic Ethics: Authors must adhere to academic ethics. Violations will result in the author bearing all related administrative and legal responsibilities, and the Journal may refuse to accept submissions from the authors for two years.
The views expressed in the Journal are those of the authors and do not represent the stance of the Journal.
Authors whose papers are accepted for publication, including themed articles and articles, are required to review three articles for the Journal. For articles in other sections, authors are required to review two articles. The Journal will provide a certificate of appreciation for this voluntary service.
V. Copyright Authorization
Upon submission and acceptance of the manuscript by the Journal, the author agrees to grant the Journal the right to authorize the National Central Library or other database providers to reproduce, provide online services, and allow users to download, print, and view the manuscript. The Journal may modify the format as needed to meet the requirements of different databases without further notice.
The authorization granted by the Journal is non-exclusive. Upon acceptance of the manuscript, the authors should download and complete the Copyright Authorization Form the Journal’s website (http://www.ites.org.tw) and email the PDF or JPG file to the Journal’s editorial office at ites.org.tw@gmail.com
VI. Article Publication Charges (APCs)
As an open access journal, APCs cover the costs of peer review administration, and management, and professional production of articles. For Topic Article and Other Article, a total fee of NT$5,000 is required for the submission and publication:
(1).Submission Fee: NT$2,000, collected before submitting your manuscript to the Journal.
(2).Publication Fee: NT$3,000, collected for each accepted paper. Please complete the transaction within one week of receiving the “Notice of Upcoming Publication.”
For Education Horizon, International Education, Education Trend, and Research Review, a total of NT$4,000 is required for the submission and publication:
(1).Submission Fee: NT$2,000, collected before submitting your manuscript to the Journal.
(2).Publication Fee: NT$2,000, collected for each accepted paper. Please complete the transaction within one week of receiving the “Notice of Upcoming Publication.”

Complimentary Copies: The Journal publishes six issues per year. Members of the Institute of Taiwan Educational Studies receive complimentary copies. For membership details, please refer to the appendix of each issue or check the Institute’s website.
