Lesson 5/27

Lesson Plan for Wednesday, May 27th

Let’s celebrate Shavuot!

The word Shavuot (or Shavuos) means “weeks.” It celebrates the completion of the seven-week Omer counting period between Passover and Shavuot.

The Torah was given by G‑d to the Jewish people on Mount Sinai on Shavuot more than 3,300 years ago.

The Ten Commandments are good rules that people follow.

Let's talk about the rules we have at school/home.

Then, let's make a fun and edible Torah Scroll craft.

Ingredients: 1 flat tortilla per child 2 pretzel rods per child or Carrot Sticks work too Cream cheese spread 1 licorice string or fruit roll upInstructions:Cut the rounded edge off the top and bottom of the tortilla. Spread a soft cheese mixture over the tortilla. Put a pretzel rod on the left and right edge of the tortilla. Wrap the tortilla around the pretzel rods, starting at each side and meeting in the middle of the tortilla. Use the licorice string to tie around the "Torah." Enjoy!
