Description:
The primary rival to humanity in the Galactic South, Threshers are tall, insectoid creatures resembling giraffe beetles, and named for their feeding habits. Threshers typically communicate by coded clicks and flashes of light emitted from an organ beneath their compound eyes, which they can also use to temporarily blind enemies. As of 4679, most of the Thresher race is united under the polity of the same name, and typically believe themselves as somehow superior to other races (except Roaches, which are seen as equals). It is believed Threshers are an evolution of the Terran Roach, adapted for life in the Xe'cury system.
Threshers have been at war with humanity since first contact was made between the two races in 3874, though the self-proclaimed Thresher "Empire" was not arranged until 4200. Fueled by xenophobic tendencies and an ultranationalist government, Threshers remain a major threat in the Divide, second only to the storms that occur in the region. Threshers do not appear to be affected by these storms, and depend on them for rapid transport across their realm, attaching large "sails" to their spacecraft to ride the streams of hyperaccelerated particles and objects in a way similar to other Dividean cultures.
