Subject: The Maggdurr Operationzone: The Enigma Below the Divide
The Maggdurr Operationzone is an anomalous and unusual zone of the galaxy, with its upper boundaries just below the Divide and its lower end unclear. There is very little known about the region and its inhabitants, except for what is displayed here. The Operationzone has not been catalogued in here due to questions of whether it can be classified as a nation. In fact, the only current evidence that the place still exists in its known form is a series of bi-weekly broadcasts sent on flip-flop lines across the galactic southwest, usually either pings sent across the network or the occasional status update regarding what we assume is a Hagbeadi invasion.
Other than that, this is a summary of what is currently known about the Maggdurr Operationzone.
The Maggdurr Operationzone is centralized on a rogue planet of the same name, which has been known to have been continuously inhabited since at least the early 1000s. The surface of Maggdurr is pitch black, save for blue candlelight and the occasional odd patch of green bioluminescent material. Beyond Maggdurr, an area encompassing roughly 4-6 thousand light years is regularly patrolled by spacecraft traveling in artificial hyperlanes that connect certain systems within the boundary of the operationzone. It is believed most planets in the operationzone are colonized, though the extent of colonization is unclear.
It is extremely difficult to even reach the Maggdurr Operationzone due to the Divide and Thresher activity, and most spacecraft sent into the area are usually intercepted regardless of intent anyways. Individuals that manage to set foot on Maggdurr planets report being stalked or sometimes outright attacked by the locals. However, parties from the Maggdurr Operationzone have been known to occasinally interact with the outside galaxy, most notably when an armada of local spacecraft assisted Gerg hordes in fighting off the Ibixian Empire during the Two Centuries' War, apparently traversing the Divide via repeatedly "leaping" across pockets of calmer space.
The Maggdurr Operationzone dabbles in esoteric technology similar to what the marrites of Exlatosh supposedly dabbled in, most notably bio-engineering and climate control. However, the technology of the Maggdurr Operationzone is significantly more organized, with advancements made in the zone often bordering the line between magic and innovation. The flip-flop communication lines were originally developed in the Maggdurr Operationzone, and spread to the Gergosphere via interlopers south of the Divide.
The Maggdurr Operationzone seems to be primarily populated by an endemic subspecies or breed of marrites (colloquially referred to as maggdurr marrites), or at least creatures under their influence. While all individuals claiming to have been from the Maggdurr Operationzone were marrites, they exhibit features not usually found in most marrites, and are sometimes accompanied by other miscellaneous beings. The most distinctive feature of a maggdurr marrite is their arms, which number merely two in comparison to the usual four. The proboscis is also shorter than a standard marrite's, and their frame is more diminutive (though still bulkier than a human's). The maggdurr marrite is entirely mute, communicating to others via flip-flop communications, hand gestures, or flashes of heat and light emitted from the hand. It is thought they are capable of seeing in infrared.
The known history of the Maggdurr Operationzone is very limited, but it is thought that its inhabitants engaged in warfare with at least two other unknown civilizations or beings in their early history, likely prompting their militaristic isolationist ways observed now. Mobile observatories indicate Maggdurr was initially colonized in the 800s for roughly a century before leaving, only to return a couple hundred years later. Since then, they do not seem to have relocated their main residence, instead opting to remotely govern nearby planets while not letting anyone in their space.
The Maggdurr Operationzone remained in a policy of complete isolationism throughout the Terran Golden Age until the Great Wipe. After this, the Maggdurr Operationzone would occasionally extend its influence (as seen in the Two Centuries' War), but would not maintain significant contact with the outside until the 4100s, when intercepted transmissions from the area reported "persistent and continuous" incursions from the galactic west (likely Hagbeadi activity), prompting an armed response and what can be assumed to be a war that carries on to this day. The fact that transmissions from Maggdurr not only are capable of reaching beyond the Divide but can be received in the Gergosphere imply contacts outside the operationzone.
