Clementina
Before the Dyromachy, the Clementinan System acted as an important hub for interstellar trade and commerce, being unofficially referred to as the "second capital system of the PMC". As a result, the system immediately claimed authority over the PMC after the destruction of Dyron IV, to which many of the federation's constitute states viewed as an admission of guilt and declared war. Fortunately for the Clementinans, they had inherited a large military and economy from the Age of Prosperity, and managed to grow their territory to immense sizes. Considering themselves the legitimate successors of the PMC, the Clementinan Khaganate and its vassals sought to unite the entire Gergosphere. It is believed they managed to expand as far south as the Divide, and as far north as MG.
However, their reign would be short-lived, since it turns out declaring war on all your neighbors and spreading yourself thin isn't good for sustainability. The Clementinan Khaganate was pushed back into the Northcentral Gergosphere by 4311 and dealt a killing blow when the Milnilchlan Khaganate occupied the Clementinan system in 4483. The entire system's infastructure was razed and most of its population slaughtered, enslaved, or driven off in a genocidal act retrospectively referred to as the "Clementinan Collapse". Although the system was recovered three years later in a counter-offensive, the damage had been done, and to this day the Clementinan Khaganate is but a rump state of its former glory.
Like many Gergic cultures, Clementinans are semi-nomadic and avoid developing planets. It is a common practice for groups to enjoy the resources of a planet for a set number of years before relocating to avoid dependence on a specific world. To reinforce this, many Clementinans dwell in massive spacecraft known as "denarks" that can house tens of thousands of individuals. Equivalents to denarks can be found across the Gergosphere, such as in the "homvalawng" of the Dolor Khaganate and the "soyocine" of the Milnilchlanese, though the term "denark" can be used broadly. Denarks are typically accompanied by massed cruiser and destroyer escorts, which can act as habitation for their crews. Clementinan denark fleets will orbit a certain world for up to ten years or if other factors force them to move, in which case the fleet will move to another planet in the system or enter hyperspace to move on. This prevents the resources of a star system from being rapidly depleted and allows the sustenance of a large population without committing to permanent, inflexible surface settlements.
On the contrary, a significant portion of the Clementinan population lives on a number of developed urban worlds, most notably those in the home Clementinan system. Despite the devastation of the Clementinan Collapse, the Clementina System still has a strong growing population of thirty billion sedentary inhabitants. Decimated infrastructure, institutional amnesia, and high poverty pose a significant challenge to development in Clementina, and many desperate local leaders will wage petty wars on one another for access to much needed wealth. Ever since the collapse, the Clementinan military has largely fragmented into fleets more loyal to their home system or band than to the state itself. A Gerg exists to lead the nation, but their power is largely symbolic compared to that of powerful ruling families and cabals that act independently in all but name. Attempts to reunify Clementina have arisen from time to time in response to external crises, but fissile out once the crisis has been dealt with.
Historically however, the Clementinan Khaganate was the premier power of the Gergosphere and was largely centralized under a hereditary Gerg and their lieutenants. Clementinan military activity was paramount and used for aggressive expansion. Opponents were subdued through a string of successful campaigns into enemy territory, supported through pragmatic alliances with powers that would rather seek Clementinan protection than see their common enemies prosper. Similarly large powers acted as roadblocks for Clementinan expansion, the most notorious of which would be the Federation of Kyrnomacek, the Principality of Neopolis, the Thresher Empire, and later the Hagbeadi Empire. Long, costly wars with these powers gradually eroded Clementinan confidence, until the empire's array of vassals and protectorates began to splinter off in the latter days of the Clementinan wars. Today, the Clementinans do not pose a significant threat and are largely a nuisance at worst outside their home territory. However, their firepower is still considerable, even in their current fragmented state. A leading power in Segmentum Gergus Inferior, Clementina competes with Calor, Milnilchlan, and the growing Hagbeadi presence in the region for dominance.
